I think we should make a new stock called ‘799 + 1, the letter after S’

You can, in fact nobody will stop you from doing so especially not Cinestill considering it's nowhere near the name they gave their product. that's some sound advice that these other labs should have taken to market their version of the kodak stock but they chose to name it the same as Cinestill because they knew it would get them sales unlike coming up with their own unique name. Every comment like this gives Cinestill even more validity to fight the copyright for 800T and you guys just don't see it.

This is akin to Netflix suing Apple for them calling Apple TV a streaming service, it’s literally a description of the technical medium
@AndrewMclean
@AndrewMclean Жыл бұрын
That’s a decent analogy although CineStill’s is a touch more specific but still the gist of it is the same!

Definitely an interesting one having also read Cinestill’s response. Not quite sure how they managed to get the trademark, but also aware that in the States you have to protect your trademark in order to keep it so I guess that’s a tricky one for them to deal with. The Goliath look definitely isn’t a good one though
@AndrewMclean
@AndrewMclean Жыл бұрын
Agreed, US trademark rules dictate that it is not only your responsibility but also required for you to protect your trademark, however how they do this and how they managed to get the trademark initially are the two key takeaways for me.

cinestill is a small business though, they only have a dozen employees and haven’t actually sued anyone

Prices were already outrageous, but this move just confirms their greed... and they're just digging themselves into a deeper hole with their responses and justifications. great video!

I've been unimpressed with the CineStill 400D and the 800T and had already decided to not buy anymore of their films but this has pretty much sealed the deal.

I think both the video and comments are a little harsh, even a small amount of research gives an alternative and equally viable perspective. It’s obvious the Cinestill are no ‘Goliath’ business as they say they have 12 employees, once trademark is granted in the US it must be enforced to stay active. I have never shot Cinestill but anyone calling for a boycott is putting a firm at risk when there is little more than hearsay ….. seems very harsh to me
@AndrewMclean
@AndrewMclean Жыл бұрын
I agree that some of the comments are harsh, at the time of recording the Petapixel interview hadn’t been published which is why I put it right at the top of the description. I also ensured that in the video i make it quite clear that this is only what has been reported. The reality of it looking at everything recently published, is that the truth is probably somewhere in between.
@seanferries1938
@seanferries1938 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewMcleanI do totally agree that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle and yes you did post the correction and did say it was alleged, so happy to agree you did offer balance.

Your ignorance at the time of producing your opinion is called out. There are a couple of “b” listed youtubers espousing the same rubbish. Talk about questionable business practices, take a hard look at your research, because your commentary is rubbish. Like the other “b” list youtubers, you can 💩can Cinestill all you like but it comes at a price, your credibility.

Oh dear, so Kodak can no longer call their film Kodak Vision 800T Color Negative Film 5289 because CineStill now own the trademark on '800T' or anything that sound remotely similar to it. Hmm I wonder how that will impact CineStill, maybe Kodak will stop supplying them with the raw stock now. The world has gone bonkers!

I hate that there's no real alternative to 800t or 400d in 120, I'll probably shoot reflx in 35mm but I shoot a lot more 120 and nothing I can see gives me that look
@AndrewMclean

They definitely have the monopoly over 120 when it comes to 800T, I can’t think of any alternative at all!

Maaaaan! That's WACK! Eff Cinestill! Good on Catlabs for telling them to get stuffed. 800T is wack anyways. Shoot Vision3 500T and get an ECN2 kit. Your shots will look WAY better anyway.

Chipotle Mexican Grill is suing rival Sweetgreen for trademark infringement over the latter’s recently released salad bowl. In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Chipotle said that Sweetgreen’s “Chipotle Chicken Burrito Bowl” is being marketed in a “very similar and directly competitive” manner that is similar to Chipotle’s chicken burrito bowl.

I guess if someone wanted to be cheeky they could make 1600/2 T. That’s pretty ridiculous. That would be like Kodak suing anyone who puts the word portrait into their film name because it’s similar to Portra.
@m-pbogner7980

You could just call it 1600t. Just let the consumer know to push it one stop for the 1600, just like delta 3200.
