The most impressive thing is Miller is doing this to quality teams. The A's were supposed to be a laughing stock, and they just aren't. It's almost like a real "Major League" situation, with the owner crapping all over the team, and the team is finding ways to stay relevant... Motivation is a powerful tool. Being a Braves fan, and having no care what the AL west does, I am pulling for the A's to gets some more wins this season! If not win the division, play spoiler to the other teams trying to win the division...

In case anybody is wondering how a negative FIP is possible: FIP is calculated as FIP=13*HR/IP + 3*(BB+HBP)/IP-2*K/IP+ a constant. The constant is around 3.2, and I’ll just substitute in 3.2 going forward. Consider an example of a pitcher that throws 3 innings, has 6 K’s, walks 2, doesn’t hit anybody, and doesn’t give up any home runs. Their FIP is 13*0/3+3*2/3-3*6/3+3.2=0+2-6+3.2=-0.8. Basically, if your Ks per 9, HRs per 9, Hit batters per 9, and K to BB ratio are all as stupidly good as Miller’s is, you can actually end up with a negative FIP.

Actually love dealing with baseball players. The best! Great channel 👏🏻
@blahblah490007 ай бұрын
For all the celebration of "k-struts," I appreciate that Miller has class and doesn't make a big deal when he gets a strikeout. Players like Nolan Ryan didn't do that--and do you know why? Because in baseball there is supposed to be a mutual respect between the pitcher and the batter, especially at this level of play: batters couldn't pitch like that, and pitchers couldn't hit like that. Each one knows that he couldn't do the other's job as well as the other guy can. Also, pitchers aren't stepping into the box against 103 mph fastballs day after day. Dancing and staring down hitters after getting a strikeout is classless behavior. We shouldn't celebrate it.
@markharbaugh44457 ай бұрын
Meh... I like the old school mentality. But I also like a little flair injected into the game. If a pitcher or hitter points directly at each other, then that is not ok. But if a pitcher performs a strut or a hitter pimps a long ball while simply pumping themselves or their own team up with it, get after it!

It won't happen because Andrew Friedman doesn't buy high when it comes to trades. He (very wisely for the most part), trades for players when their value is depressed for one reason or another (pending free agency, injury, mechanical issue they think they can correct), and virtually never when they are at their peak value and asking price. However if there was one guy they should break their rules for and go get, it's Miller. I enjoy the 100 win seasons and love the team, but I've watched too many post seasons end in heartbreak, with a majority of the failures due to pitching issues late in games. Be that using guys like Kershaw and Sherzer too often, for too long, because of lack of faith in the bullpen, or the bullpen failing when called upon, or because of injuries to pitchers, it's the single most common factor that ties the postseason failures together. Miller is that rare reliever that makes it a 7 inning game when his team has the lead. It's over. If you're gonna spend what the Dodgers and commit fully to building a dynastic team, then you go get a Mason Miller when one miraculously appears and is available, whatever it costs. Prospects don't matter when you spend a billion to win today.
