The world that SE and Aquire have crafted within the OT series is so gorgeous - with a mesmerising soundtrack to boot - that I couldn't not jump right back in! Loving this game and will continue to do so until everyone around me rips my vocal chords out for humming the main theme so much.

The random encounters are kinda important to stop you from wandering into high level areas and grabbing all the good items in early game, especially without risk. I think they can make something like a repel from pokemon, which stops random encounters which is lower level than you

Actually in the same world as the first game its just the second game took place in a different continent. There are playable characters in Octopath Traveler COTC that wears a Kimono and in one character's introduction mentioned about their hometown in the eastern continent and thats probably Solistia which its the continent of the 2nd game
@warpuppy4528

The biggest improvement is to the individual character stories. In the first one, the game was structured to follow a very precise formula and the story often suffered for it. You would be introduced to a situation, use field skills to expand on the situation which would take you to a dungeon, explore the dungeon to the end and then fight a boss. In Octopath 2, sometimes your character will arrive to a location and already know exactly what they need to do so they won't need to use field skills in town to get going, sometimes there is a boss they will have to fight within the city so there is no dungeon, and sometimes there won't even be a boss in a chapter. The writers were given much more freedom to tell the stories they wanted to tell rather than forcing the story to fit a specific box. As far as combat goes, I wish there were difficulty options because I find myself having no problems even when I am fighting enemies 10 levels above me, but apparently this game is also hard for some people. So adding an easy mode and a hard mode would go a long way. I think all they would really have to do is give enemies more shield points with less weaknesses on hard, and reduce the damage enemies deal to you on easy. I also wish there was some kind of EXP sharing because some of my characters really fell behind and rather than being the hero of their story, they were more like dead weight being dragged through their chapters by my better party members.

There is SOME connection to the first game. The Flamebringer is back again, even though this is a different world. I've only just started the game, so I have no idea if there's anything to his inclusion, but it doesn't seem like just a name drop.

i like it, if games change little to not at all between sequels. it makes them feel more like part of a whole, instead of a gimmick. i dont need two towers to have holographic images, just because fellowship of the ring is a book. and i dont need return of the kings to be an interactive VR-experience. sometimes we force change, just for changes sake. i just want more of octopath traveler 1. The "it needs to have something new with every sequel" is what lead us to FF16, being action-combat-oriented (allthough it doesn't bother me. it's just how the tides force change, even unwanted) or breath of fire to change itself into obscurity being abandoned alltogether.
@ricardodarcangelo2437
@ricardodarcangelo2437 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I take your point on the "forcing change for change's sake" point. That's true, and not necessarily a positive. However, in the case of a long running, high sales franchise like FF, the change to action based combat was refreshing. Cuz everyone that plays rpgs wants to see what Final Fantasy is doing next, but the traditional rpg (jrpg) combat is more niche these days, and not broadly appealing. FF is the mainstream for rpgs now, so the change makes sense. I grew up on the traditional rpgs and Srpgs, and I get why they are loved, and of course, don't want to see them disappear... but I also would like to play FF16, as I have with every FF besides 11/14, and the combat is a change that needed to happen. Plus, many who "hate" the switch to more action, haven't really tried good action rpgs, and might be surprised to find they enjoy them once they learn it. Still, SE should do some spin offs or something, that keep the old school combat, to give those who only enjoy that style something for them too. Change is great if it brings new ideas, and gets more people into playing rpgs, and maybe going back to the classics; but ousting your longest supporters isn't great... I'm sure it wasn't an easy choice

I mean, the first game isn't out for 15 years yet. But also, it wasn't grindy at all IMO! Yes some of the battles could be very hard, Galdera itself took me a few attemps, and whenever you jumped from one chapter to the next it could get brutal. But using the game mechanics, you could manage! Leveling up didn't help much to get stronger in the late game really; items are more important, and money is easy to come by especially with Tressa in the team

It only feels the same if you played both games on switch because the switch versions have this washed out look to them but if your like me and went from op1 on switch to op2 on ps5 then there's a massive difference, the ps5 version of op2 doesn't have that washed out look to it, it has more than double the resolution and twice the framerate, it's almost a night and day difference, the biggest difference was the framerate tho, playing op2 on ps5 in 4K@60fps was just amazing, the portability factor on switch just isn't worth the sacrifice to both quality and performance, playing new games in 720p@30fps just isn't acceptable anymore, Nintendo needs to release a switch 2 capable of running every game at least 60fps, I mean in the PC world 60fps is low considering most PC games can run at 120fps with higher end PCs, I mean god, even the ps5 can run a lot of games at 120fps, 60fps is just an industry standard with only a few outliers

@reklom vera Yes, the 8 main jobs are the same, but in the first or 2nd chapter (I started with Throne and went to Temenos) I was given the option for a 2nd job and it was Inventor. I don't know all the secondary jobs, but I know they are different, and they also updated the primary classes with some fantastic QoL changes and some additional skills (5 support skills vs. 4 in the first game) along with latent skills and day/night skills like Throne the thief still steals during the day, but can ambush and knock someone out at night. The hunter Ochette has a 25% chance to capture a monster after she's defeated it at least once, which makes it so much easier to capture and keep a roster of support monsters and will be nice for those rarer monsters later on in the game. *edit* just got to Hikari and the ability to store up to 5 skills from people you challenge as warrior is an amazing skill IMO

That way you are rewarded for exploring, reaching new towns, use path actions to retrieve (somehow) those itens from NPCs; not for fighting per se. If they even just got a little creative with them, maybe add a feature where you have the option to skip the battle and just win if the enemy is enough levels lower than you (sort of like Earthbound)... Sidequest spoiler, there is a connection to the world from the first game. You have to follow a sidequest chain which leads to a superboss connected to the original and a character from said sidequest was a dimensional traveler.

Same here. I think wizard or hunter. I want both in my team for sure. Then the cleric or apothecary and thief. Or both cleric and apo, or would that be useless (for buffs/heals)? I know nothing about this game 😅. Just wanna play for story and pretty graphs lol.

I wish they would hurry up & utilize this HD-2D design on the best classic JRPG ever made: Final Fantasy 6! Would also like to see them replace random encounters with onscreen enemies if they could still find a way to remain faithful to the original's overall gameplay mechanics at the same time. I'd also love HD-2D remakes of DQ5 & Chrono Trigger too!

Even though I grew up on random battles, it stopped me from completing the first Octopath as I am (unfortunately) an adult with very little time. I just want to get to the next story bit! Still, I enjoy playing all these JRPGs vicariously through your channel.

there are some items / abilities in Octopath 1 to let you avoid so many random battles. Namely the scholar ability evasive manuevers. Basically lets you run around like how you'd normally expect a jrpg to go

To note that both the Switch & PC are the only places you can play both the first & second game. On the Playstation side of things, only the second game is available, while the Xbox side of things, only the first game is available. Kind of weird, maybe in the future time changes that. But yes, PC is one of the definitive platforms to play the series.

I would say this game is a direct upgrade from the last game. A bunch of quality of life changes and it just feels great to play. Totally love the stories too, maybe a bit less for Agnea, it is a bit too sunny for my taste
@teachingwithipad
@teachingwithipad Жыл бұрын
i think it’s good they have the full spectrum tonally- Agnea-happy go lucky, determination. Temenos- Sherlock Holmes, Hikari- monarchy struggles, Throne- slavery, Ochette-Pokemon, Oswald-Prison Break/Framed, Partitio(imo the weakest story, benevolent businessman? You rarely see this trope in media.) Casiti-G rated memento. They went HARD with Primrose’s prologue. I was hoping it goes Game of Thrones where your main characters can have permadeath in some story completion. But it would be a nighmare to finish. Even George RR can’t finish his stories.

The one thing I didn't like and that's why I quit the first one is that it was just a bunch of little stories taped together. Is this really the same? Do characters interact more with each other? Is there a cohesive bigger story? As much as I liked every else, I just couldn't keep playing because of that.
@monam91
@monam91 Жыл бұрын
I was quite disappointed with it. The dungeons are still very basic, the party interactions are only slightly better but mainly non existent. And while the sprites are pretty, there are very limited animations during dialogue they just stand there most of the time. Games like Suikoden and final fantasy 6 had much more expressive animations and those came out decades ago.

Gorgeous game, but just as boring as the first one. Battles are way too annoying: that weakness system is still as much annoying and gimmicky as in the first one: have the good weapon or magic and fights will be a breeze. If you don't, it will take too much time and be way too boring, and since the random fight encounter rate is way too high, you will spend way too much time in combat. Only the boss fight are intesresting, otherwise, the weakness system is too gimmicky to be interesting for a whole game.
