I really can’t believe that Togashi actually intended “Meruem being in charge would be better” - the point of the final outcome is that all the horrors the ants committed are things humans already do, and humans have had way more time to perfect it. The ants are not ‘better’ in an absolute sense, just younger. And that distinction is visible in the Succession War as well: The Kakin Emperor may be planning to kill everyone on board to empower the empire, a goal no less awful than Morena’s. She’s killed fewer people than he has, so far. But what Togashi actually depicts, with characters like Komugi (for example) is the tragedy of good people existing and even being common, but helpless before the awful power of those who wield it. Netero and Meruem, the old master and the young prodigy, are monsters - Komugi, helpless and kind, on the other hand, was the only thing that humanized Meruem. How many Komugis had Netero dismissed out of hand as weak? How many aspiring hunters died because he wanted strong opponents? The monster is not humanity but the powerful, as we see from Gon’s monstrous transformation when he chooses power over everything else - Netero set Gon on that path.

@@-Mintyy I do not think it is cope. When ppl say Mereum would have been best it is because by the end he was written to basically have achieved "nirvana". He was all powerful but a vicious monster in the beginning, however, over time through Komugi he became more benevolent and even offered to not kill all of humanity. He softened and learned from those around him and showed admirable characteristics leaders should have. Netero, however, knew this meant the end for humanity because humans are chaotic, evil and perfected malice. He knew no matter soft the King had become, Mereum would still kill a lot of humans if he wanted to enforce a more peaceful world.

Morena is the final villain of the Succession war arc, heres why: Morena is the only character in the Black whale that is a common enemy to everyone. She wants to kill everybody in the Black whale, the 200 thousand people there don't want to die, so Morena is an enemy for them. Morena wants to kill all the princes too, so she is an enemy for all the princes, including Kurapika that is protecting Woble. Beyond's child is among the princes, Beyond will want to kill whoever kills his child, so Morena is also an enemy of Beyond. The Zodiacs will not let anyone destroy this ship and kill everybody, so Morena's also an enemy of the zodiacs. She's already been targeted by the Troupe, so she's already an enemy of the spiders. She's an enemy even for Kurapika's enemy: Tserriednich. Now, Tserriednich, the guy that people think that will be the final villain of this arc, he's just an enemy for the other princes, cause he has to kill them all to become the next king... And he is an enemy for Kurapika, cause Kurapika is protecting Woble, but also, Kurapika already has his personal reasons to go up against Tserriednich. You get it? Tserriednich don't fufill the qualifications to be the FINAL VILLAIN, but Morena on the other hand, she's basically will make everyone in this ship has a common goal: try to stop her of destroying and killing everything and everyone. One of Togashi's assistants already said that this time Togashi WANTS to get to chapter 430, he is not even considering stop before he gets to 430 complete.

Togashi just sends me reeling every time I think about how, if Machi hadn't been the kind of compassionate child who'd become a mortician's assistant and develop a nen ability that let her mend bodies, or if she had simply become completely callous towards the dead as an adult, she wouldn't have doomed herself her friends by accidentally bringing Hisoka back to life. If she hadn't been that kind of child, she might have never learned nen at all, and in turn never taught it to the other Troupe members. Obviously she's responsible for her other actions, but little Machi wanting to do right by her dead was the one good thing that ruined *everything*.

About Morena giving her underlings specific nen abilities, it doesn't even require her nen ability, or contract, or anything to make that happen. One of the interesting things about HunterXHunter's power system is that (except for very specific things under Specialization) _literally anyone can have any ability_ if they work at it. The only caveat is that they won't be as effective if they don't "fit" their natural abilities and nen affinity. People getting hatsu that they didn't invent, themselves, has already been established in the Chimera Ant Arc, as Pufu was inventing them for certain ants and training them in how to use them. Presumably, he was carefully studying their affinities and capabilities to make sure it was a strong ability, but that's not a requirement. As shown by Kastro's clone and Cheetu's slow dart-gun, people can develop bad hatsu. So anyone could be given any ability by Morena. Their devotion to her is enough to make them work at any ability she tells them to develop. They could even be given Bungee Gum or Kurapika's chains... they would just be utterly terrible at it. But it would *still exist,* and given that the Contagion ability levels up nen linearly and predictably, even a hatsu that started off bad could eventually become fairly strong once its user has killed enough people to reach a high enough level.

I understand the argument that Togashi is a nihilist, and that he’s compromising with his more optimistic readers, but I don’t fully support this view. For fans of YuYu Hakusho, this is the third time Togashi has introduced an arc centered around humanity’s morality. Despite our sins as a collective, we also have the capacity for kindness, and there are always characters who challenge the nihilistic villain’s beliefs. Kuwabara was able to change Seaman’s (shut up) mind, while Komugi changed Mereum’s behavior in the end. I still think the Succession War arc, and maybe HxH as a series, will end with a bittersweet tone.

I just want this manga to finish this arc or at least making off the ship. In the past 5 years it’s just set up…. I’m 100% sure Togashi will end off like Miura. Someone that chose to not let someone take it over while he was alive so he can finish the manga the way he wanted to finish it. To me, an American, we do the "nah, yah" and "yah, nah" too. If you listen, despite the different accents the use of tone is identical. There is a really clear upwards and downwards inflection given in each phrase that indicates which is positive and which is negative. A lot of conversative english, no matter the dialect, relies more on tone and inflection to convey meaning rather than the actual words.

Togashi has a habit of humanizing most of the factions we witness during the story. Most villain, no matter how vile, seem to have some virtues. In the case of Hizoka, he has a twisted sense of honor and sportmanship, for the Troupe it's loyalty and camaderie, (The bombers also seem to share this quality between each other) Tzereidnich is diligent and persistent, Meruem in his short lifespan has learned love and humility. The Hei Li might be humanized, but i think they will be crueler and worse for humanity than the chimera ants.

I think the card game is one of Morena's conditions to infect someone. It might set the parameter of the kind of ability the infected person will reach when they are level 20 and it might double as a manipulation condition. Perhaps the ability is not only giving others the power to grow by murdering people, but also gives her some subtle level of control, probably affecting the target's loyalty to her and her cause.

Meruem still wanted to put humans in a 'special zone', eat them and keep the exceptional ones. He was never about a utopia, he just wanted to play eugenics. The only thing I don't like about Togashi is that nihilistic view of humanity.

I feel like challenging Hisoka to a card game is a really really bad idea. From his first appearance, he's played with cards. Bungee gum can be used to mark cards invisibly and quickly. He could even use texture surprise to hide what the actual card pulled is/reframe his answer.

I mean, a single run of chapters going up to 430 isn't impossible, this month togashi hasn't done anything past 424, but I feel that's personal reasons, not more so his back because he's still working on other chapters, just adding more background and dialogue to get them finished quicker, I also think we'll get another hiatus in about 2 weeks, but not too long, probably until togashi at least finishes the character drawings for 425-430

Reading the chapter I never considered the negotiation game to be a nen ability. UNLESS the statement on a danger for both of them that increases the more they talks... But I assumed that there was a nen ability active at the same time of the game but not actually the negotiation game itself
