I have a PBJ-1J with maxxed out gunners, and an expert crew, and sometimes I almost kinda feel bad. Flying that thing through a furball or over a front line reliably gets kills and/or assists. It attracts enemy fighters like crazy, and my gunners just dump AP rounds into their engines and cockpits.

You actually had to think about how to approach a bomber instead of just flying up behind them and hosing them from more than 800m since that is the max an aced crew will start firing at.

@@dixienormus-6916 well obviously I also am a bomber player, use the PE-8 and love the thing to bits (I consider it a better fighter than basically every fighter in the USSR tree up to the jets), the turrets are great and the payload is decently versatile (not the best but sure as hell not the worst). But that changes little that the argument is on the AI gunners. Manually aiming the guns should always be the preferred option however you are doing so from a FIXED convergence that you cannot ajust. This means that unless you are firing directly in axis with one of the guns while the target had been slotted, you will always be at a severe disadvantage when it comes to hitting them. Unless the target is right at the aimed distance it is physically impossible to hit them with more than one gun, meaning that most of the kills I get are either by the top of rear turret simply because they are the ones that can be properly aligned. The engine turrets just serve to spray each side of the plane and value little as extra firepower. If AI gunners remain neutered in their range then at least fixing the convergence to be welcomed. Something either similar to the ships or having the depth guidance and lead (that a player cannot calculate) gets handled by the AI with it's accuracy based on gunner level, and vertical/horizontal lead being up to the player.

I was formation flying with a squadmate in Shackletons once, and a Fw-190 was gaining on us. My squadmate started pulling evasive manoeuvres, and as I was ahead of him, I tried to turn around to help, but ended up accidentally snapping my wings. I then watched as this guy in a Shackleton engaged in a dogfight with the Fw-190 and won. I don’t think I’ve seen anything more impressive in all my years of playing this game.

Historically gunners were trained to fire at 1km out (for US crews at least). I've been saying for years (when I actually played this game religiously) that gunners should start firing. At 1km out. I don't even care if they hit anything just the firing alone should be enough to deter most players from committing from an attack run. But .21km firing distance on a fully leveled crew is just ridiculous. I still have a crew of fully leveled gunners from when they used to be good for memeing. With paper bombers (I'm assuming they haven't buffed bomber durability yet since I've stopped playing about ~4yrs now) they should definitely either buff gunners or durability. Sorry for the rant, nice edits man that was a fun one to watch!

Even at BR 3.7 in a P-61 when I'm controlling the gunners I start shooting at more than 1.5 km away. For those that don't know, Gaijin never actually killed gunner accuracy. They just lowered their firiing range to max 310m on a fully trained, and aced, crew. Now get out there and use the NC.223.23 with them 20mm hispanos.
