For those asking how the feud started. . . it was actually due to a off the cuff remark that Kimmel made at the end of one of his early shows. . . . Early on, the ratings were not that great, and the producers had a hard time booking big-name celebrities. So night after night, at the end of his shows, Kimmel would thank his guests. . . .and then one night, as he's reading off who was just on, Kimmel, either as a funny joke to make the booking people laugh or just feeling exasperated at the low ratings, happened to throw out the 'apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time. . .' phrase. The producers and bookers and the audience loved it, and the rest I could tell you, but I am out of time.

I didn't know about this running joke when I first tuned into Jimmy Kimmel many years ago, and two nights in a row I believed that Matt Damon had really been bumped for whoever had been on. The second night, I thought, "Matt Damon is way more A list than (whoever had been on), he's not going to want to come back!" Then it hit me that it's a pre-recorded show, and I thought, "Couldn't they have found some window of time where Jimmy Kimmel could've interviewed Matt Damon, and aired it already??" I was quite indignant on Matt Damon's behalf. 😂 Third night in a row I tuned in, and Jimmy Kimmel said apologies to Matt Damon, etc, the penny finally dropped; I thought, "This must be a running joke."
