Of the 5 brands shown, I've only had Velveeta and Kraft. I also have had Kraft Deluxe and the store brand (ShopRite). In my opinion, when it comes to mac & cheese with the powder mixture, I much prefer the ShopRite brand over Kraft. But, when it comes to the creamy cheese sauce, Velveeta wins my vote (although Kraft Deluxe is *JUST* behind it).

Kraft was the first to brand it and package it in one box. But the ideas behind it were not his own. James Lewis Kraft didn't invent processed cheese, but he did patent his own method for making it in 1916. He obviously didn't invent pasta either. He was selling his processed cheese by itself for years. During the depression era, Grant Leslie began rubber banding packages of pasta and grated or processed cheese together and selling them as a bundle. Kraft took the idea and combined it into one box and branded it. So yes, they are the first boxed mac & cheese, but they aren't the first to sell them together and they didn't invent the original processed cheese, but did refine the process of making it.

Annie’s is the best purely because the back of the box gave me the idea to put plain yogurt (or sour cream) in with the powder, butter, and milk, and it adds an excellent tanginess that really makes the product taste better.

Actually some of your cooks say shells for mac n cheese because they tend to trap more cheese inside. Macaroni noodles have the cheese mainly encircling it on the outside. A lot of people buy those Velveeta cheese blocks to make their homemade mac n cheese so that says something about that brand.

The guy who thinks Velveeta is the worst is INSANE lol. Creamy liquidy cheese is objectively better than powdered cheese, plus the shape of the shells makes it much easier for extra cheese to get scooped up by the curve of the noodle.

Velveeta is really only good when you mix in real shredded cheese. Otherwise for me it's super salty even with milk and cream added. Kraft for me is the best because its just PURE nostalgia

I usually end up putting pepper, or hotsauce on Kraft's. It is like a baseline product. add some fresh onion to it, or some tomato. or both. But that is what they are going for. it is the nuteral mac and cheese.

The very nature of boxed mac and cheese (with the powdered packet) is adding ingredients (milk and butter). Cook plain macaroni, drain it when close to done, put back in pot, add some milk, heat up, add grated cheese of your choice, stir, plate up, eat. The possible variations and additions to that basic formula are basically endless.

Well, this list is incorrect. As the KING of Mac & Cheese, I can tell you the DEFINITIVE best box mac and cheese options. Depending on your tastes, you want to go with either Artisian Crafted, or Private Selection. My personal favorites from each are the Italian 5 cheese from Artisian Crafted, and the Wisconsin 5 cheese from Private Selection. Out of these though, #1 is Velveeta, and the worst is either Annie's or Trader Joes.

I vote homemade, baked, 50/50 sharp cheddar/ pepper Jack. Chill in refrigerator overnight. Slice. Fry in cast iron skillet greased with bacon grease. LOCK THE DAMN DOORS, LUNCH IS READY!

Just salt your pasta water, drain (don't rinse) when just underdone and return to warm burner. Add salted butter first and melt, then cheese packet with JUST enough milk to bring it together. Keep on burner until desired consistency. They took salt off the labeled instructions, so you just have to remember to add it!
