My husband and I just recently bought our own first home in Cali and while I was weeding out our backyard, I also instantly thought of the days I spent with my late inang baket in the Philippines when I was younger pulling weeds and cleaning up around my childhood home. I was thinking “Wow, I never knew that this time will come and I miss inang more than ever.. I know she’s so proud of me of how far I have come, literally and figuratively”. She passed back in 2014 and her last words to me were “Agadal ka nga nalaing” (you study well) with a smile on her face. That’s what I am thankful for. That finally, we have our own space we call our home after all the struggles we had when we got married.

That christmas lights and tree since September is SOOOO filipino. that dairy break is probably what triggered your lactose intolerance. lactase (what breaks lactose) is an adaptive enzyme, so when your body stops getting lactose the enzyme isn’t as strong. so in theory, if you drink / eat dairy you build your lactose tolerance

I can relate! My papang grew plants, and I remember getting scolded for cutting the orchid roots on his papaya tree. He had malonggay, tomato plants, and crown of thorns. My love for plants comes from those memories of the Philippines, making me think my father would be proud of my plant care now.
