DFW for the bigger picture of Texas. Dallas has the more metropolitan vibe. Ft. Worth has the Stockyards and rodeo, which runs until Feb. 9th. So. Many. Options. Here are a few: 1. Eat: >Texas BBQ (so many options and opinions on this. Yelp or google for current "Best Of". Generally, avoid the chains), >Babe's Chicken Dinner House ( I prefer either Roanoke, which is their original location, or Sanger, as there is a great little country store next door worth a visit) >Whataburger (maybe acquire a common souvenir?) >Great mexican food and wash it down with a stellar margarita-again, so many options and opinions- do you want authentic? TexMex? Street food? Quick bite? Fine dining? A fun, quick, inexpensive place with quirky choices is Torchy's. Velvet Taco gets highly rated-never been. Linger longer? Iron Cactus in Dallas >kolaches (Czech Stop in West, TX-stop on the way if you make a day trip to Waco or Austin) Google or Yelp for options in DFW 2. Visit: >Buc-ee's. The new one in Denton has the world's second longest car wash. Also, good eats options (hint: get a cone of their candied nuts). >Denton, TX Courthouse-on-the-Square (there is a small museum inside). Funky shops to visit on the square- Recycled Books and Beth Marie's Ice Cream Shop. You can ride in on the DART train then transfer to A-Train (except on Sundays) that will deliver you within walking distance. Good eats, too: Cartwright's Ranch House (chicken fried steak), Fuzzy's Tacos, Rusty Taco, LSA Burger, Barley & Board, etc. For fab vegan options check out Spiral Diner, right across from the train and police station, sample craft beer (several options-google) >Ft. Worth- Stockyards Station, daily Longhorn Cattle Drive, National Cowgirl Museum, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show, Stockyards Rodeo, Billy Bob's Texas-bar, concerts, music, dancing (free line dance lessons every Thursday at 7pm), bull riding (Fri. & Sat. nights), Texas Motor Speedway (and there is a Buc-ees next door), Log Cabin Village >Historic Downtown Grapevine-Main St.-tour a nearby winery >Dallas & nearby- Klyde Warren Park and food trucks, Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza (JFK assassination), Deep Ellum, West End Legacy Hall Plano for the free NFC Football Championship Game Watch party on Sun., Jan. 20th 6:30-9:30pm. They may also be hosting Superbowl watch party, but it hasn't be advertised yet), Pioneer Plaza, George W. Bush Presidential Center on campus of SMU, The Star in Frisco, TX headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX >A Western Wear shop- Wild Bill's or Cavender's Boot City

Austin is just a hop, skip and jump from San Antonio. You can't really say you've experienced Texas till you stop in SA with our vibrant Hispanic and Texas culture. Plus our Rodeo starts in Feb!! While you're driving down stop in Driftwood @ Salt Lick for some of the BEST BBQ. Fill your car up with gas @ the mega station known as Buccees. Tour an HEB (some are definitely better than others, but they also really try to specialize in the neighborhoods they're in.) Visit the Pearl Brewery complex and catch a boat ride, walk or bike up the Museum reach of the Riverwalk!! Excellent restaurants all along the way. Better yet, if you need some one to fetch you from Austin, I'll be happy to chauffeur!! 😉 Also I know of a cute dude ranch with authentic hustlers (they have that natural authentic Texas twang so cute) horses, and longhorns! 🤠

So so so so Very excited! Heres a quick list of a few “Texas only” things or places you have to check out :) 1. HEB - Texas only grocery store 😉 lol 2. Whataburger - I’m sure you know 3. Buc-ees (Largest travelers gastations) 4. Austin and San Antonio has great history so if you can visit the Alamo or state capital, I hope you find it interesting 💖 (Texas history not US History) 5. San Antonio river walk. It’s beautiful. 6. If you’re going to be here in Early February, I believe the Super bowl 🏈 is February 3rd? I don’t care at all about football but there will be LOADS of tailgates and barbecues. The experience is fun, don’t care much for the sport 😂 but it’s a tradition Can you legends think of anything else ? Hope you do a small secret meet up 😉💖

Hello darlings. I agree with a comment I saw that Austin is the least like Texas. However, it is the state capital and home to the University of Texas. You must go to H-E-B grocery store. Best produce section. And of course you have to go to a Buc-cee’s convenience store. It’s just awesome. And most are huge!!! To see a rodeo y’all are going to the wrong city. Best rodeos are at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I’m sure I’ll think of more places that are must see or do.

@Ceboeck5 жыл бұрын
The original central market and Whole Foods are in Austin. You have to research rodeos- they aren’t constant occurrences.Especially in the winter. DFW is big and varied and more stereotypically Texan. Austin is smaller and prides itself on being unique. Texas is a very big place - much larger than the UK. if you stay down town in Austin you can do without a car but you stay in the suburbs of Austin or DFW like you did in New Jersey you will need to rent a car. A suburb might end up being an hour from anywhere you want to be with no public transportation

Y’all need to make a drive to San Antonio. Go and eat on the river walk. Check out the Alamo (Historic landmark for Texas even though we lost that battle). Stop in New Braunfels, TX because there’s a Bucees there (HUGE gas station that’s a tourist stop). San Antonio has a lot of Mexican culture that I think y’all may like. Oh! Go to Mi Tierra which is a really good Mexican restaurant in San Antonio. Js.💁🏽♂️ Edit: San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo take place 7th-24th of February. Check it out www.sarodeo.com.
@KnightMage6 жыл бұрын
Nononononono. Indeed go to Market Square, where Mi Tierra is but skip Mi Tierra - it's tourist Mexican food, hit The Blanco Cafe, the original one on Blanco. From there you can head over to Monte Vista and see some of the most beautiful homes in San Antonio. Then you can get to The San Antonio Zoo, and Brackenridge Park, I think the tiny little kids train is still running, if it is ride it. But, if you really want to experience San Antonio in all its glory and be hitting the gym for a few hours everyday once you get back home, go to Fiesta San Antonio, simply known as "Fiesta!". It's probably too late to get a room or anything for this year, but next year make plans for it. There's the Battle of the Bands, The River Parade, Night In Old San Antonio, Oyster Bake, The Carnival, The Fiesta Flambeau Parade, The Battle of Flowers Parade, and so much more food and drink that you'll go home not wanting to eat for days. Here's the link to this years Fiesta so you can see all that it has this year: fiestasanantonio.org/ Oh, the parades are covered live online if you want to get a taste of the Battle of Flowers and the Flambeau.
@Tacoq916 жыл бұрын
KnightMage I’m gonna have to disagree about Mi Tierra. Lol. It’s pretty good. I always take friends and family there. And since they are tourist, they should definitely go! They can try some good food and the bakery while they take in a lot of culture as they have Mariachis there and decor to accompany that. But I definitely think the consensus here is that they need to come to SA. Lol.
@KnightMage6 жыл бұрын
Yes, they should indeed come to San Antonio. We are going to disagree on Mi Tierra, but I do respect your reasoning. And you are right about the Mi Tierra's bakery. Ray's Puffy Tacos should be on their list too. And I'm sure between us we could come up with a few dives where they could get very good food. Is Chris Madrid's rebuilt, or are they still using a tent? I love their hamburgers better than Whattaburger. They should also catch a Spurs basketball game.

@Leon-wz1js6 жыл бұрын
Um... not for nothing, but that interpretation depends on where you live. Some countries think there are 7 seas, others; 5 seas. Likewise, Americans believe there is a Central America, while most South American countries don't (it's either South America or North America). I know this to be true. Different countries, different lines of demarcation. In that same vein, I believe Americans look at Mexico as being part of North America, and South American countries don't.
@burke6156 жыл бұрын
Well, Mexico is/was a signatory to the North American Free Trade Agreement, so it would appear the Mexican government considers themselves part of North America.

uhh... I'd say that's a supposition. Originally, NAFTA was between America and Canada, then Mexico asked to join into the agreement, for economic reasons, not because "they look on themselves as part of North America." I'm sorry, but I'd have to hear it from the horses' mouth to believe that.

Quintessential Texas things to do while there: HEB (grocery store), Buccees (gas station known for its size and clean toilets - weird, i know, but fun!), Whataburger, Torchy's Tacos, authentic Tex Mex, oh and the original Whole Foods! I recommend going to San Antonio (45 mins-1 hr away) for a day trip to see the Alamo and Riverwalk at least. I'm in Texas right now and spend half of my time here. Austin is nice, but totally unrepresentative of Texas. It's all students, government workers, and musicians. You want the real Texas, go to Dallas and then head west (DO NOT TAKE A BUS INTO THE OUTBACK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES). Texas isn't about big cities, it's about small cities, small towns and rural areas. San Antonio, 90 miles south of Austin, is the prettiest big city in Texas. It has the Alamo and the River Walk. If you fly to Austin, leave immediately for San Antonio because you're in the wrong place to find Texas.

This is is very accurate stance on Texas in my opinion. Being that I was born in Austin and still have family there. The city is nice and very clean but you are not going to find the true meaning or an example of Texas. Austin's slogan is to "Keep Austin Weird". Austin is exactly that with some strange ducks. Austin may be the missing city of California. Dallas is a big city but also a place you can find the Texas cowboy spirit. You will be able to attend a rodeo. Plus you can see real cowboys dressed from head to toe. These cowboys give you a authentic view of what it was like on a Texas cattle drive. Longhorn cattle flood the streets as the cowboys make sure they reach the stockyards. You can go to Austin and trigger many and maybe get trigured yourself. Or go the Dallas way and experience something special.

So while you’re in Texas (you should go to Austin) here are some things to do: -go to whataburger -try chick-fil-a -rent a car and drive to the border or somewhere close to it, or even just go to Mexico (I know this might be controversial but I think that having the opinion of foreigners would be a great way to show the intensity of the issue) -go to a college basketball game (UT Austin is closest) -go to a dancing hall or somewhere where you can do all of the country line dancing, it’s totally fun and very American -Eat barbecue (there are a few foodie shows in the food network that talk about this, look that up and find the best place in austin) -find some authentic Mexican food That’s all I can think of right now but I hope you two have a blast in Texas! Can’t wait for the new year content!

Dallas is full of different cuisines, yes Mexican is top , but there's middle Eastern, Asian etc. Have fun.

If I recall correctly, they had a fan meetup in New Jersey, and it was a bust (more kids and less fun). Since then, they have hinted at a concept of a less formal get together where they could go from table to table (at a bar, or restaurant) and walk and talk casually among fans. They seem rather eager with that idea, but it probably would still have to be staged somehow. Here's wishing for you.

Dallas for sure! Just because Austin prides itself on being unique from any other city in the US. So you won't necessarily get a "Texan" experience. How long/when will you be in texas? The Houston live stock show and rodeo is THE largest indoor-outdoor rodeo in the WORLD but concerts don't start till February 25th. The concerts and the rodeo are held entirely indoors inside the arena. There are the normal concessions in the arena and then literally tons of food trucks and tents outdoors. Several smaller live music venues and the carnival are outside. There's a petting zoo and a butterfly exhibit down away from the chaos of the arena. HOWEVER, There is a the Fort Worth stock show. It is a rodeo, If you go to Dallas. I've never been so I can't really say how Big they do up the event. Anyone from Fort worth wanna tell us? I also want to add my own vote to the Buccees idea.

Austin is a fun city to visit! A strong unique culture. Dallas is also great as well. Dallas also has the stockyards which is a very cool... you can see daily Cattle drives through the mainstreet and you can get to it by train if you plan ahead. I have good friends in both places. Either choice is great. Plan ahead because there is a lot to do and see! But on the for real... y’all should plan a trip to New Orleans one day. You would have a blast. Thanks for the videos. My spouse and I are addicted to your post. Wishing you the best.

The Dallas/Fort Worth area is the best! Arlington (right in between Dallas and Fort Worth) has Six Flags, the Dallas Cowboy and Texas Ranger stadiums, food and shopping galore. Fort Worth has the Stockyards (the best indoor rodeo in the world in my humble opinion) and amazing barbecue. And Dallas is great too. A lot of museums, food, and shopping. Come to Dallas!! Dallas and Austin are about a 3.5 hour drive from each other. I’m originally from the Dallas area, and I lived in Austin for 2 years. You can’t go wrong with either; however, if I had to say one over the other then I would say Dallas for your first visit to TX. Dallas has a huge geographic footprint, and there is so much to see and do! You can go to the Arboretum in White Rock, Lower Greenville for nightlife, Deep Ellen for music and bands, shopping at Northpark (my fave) and the Galleria, etc. The Mexican and Tex-Mex food is AMAZING! Have a jalapeño margarita. Go shopping at Central Market. Austin is amazing too. You can’t go wrong either way!

Hello Joel and Lia! I understand that you try to avoid politics, but to understand the difference between Austin and Dallas, one must recognize the enormous political difference . In the U.S., blue represents the political left (liberal) and, red represents the political right (conservative). Texas is a notoriously red state, "Trump country". Austin, however is called the "blueberry", because on a map of political districts in Texas, Austin is the most liberal and also has the most interesting features and culture. Dallas itself, is larger than ALL of Wales, and is simply put, a vast concrete wasteland of highways and boring urban-sprawl. Go to Austin and take a day trip to nearby San Antonio's Riverwalk and Alamo. I promise it is much more fun for CowboyLegends. Flights might be cheaper to go to San Antonio and drive up to Austin than to fly to Austin if you are working on a limited budget. EDIT: Just saw your update that you chose Austin! ! YAY!! Right choice. I'm leaving this here to reinforce you made the right choice.

I wouldn't call Deep Ellum, West End, Bishop Arts District or Lower Greenville a "boring urban sprawl", and Dallas is also blue. I've heard Austin has gone downhill since the 90's....

I couldn't have said it better! Austin is the most liberal large city in Texas (majority of Texas is conservative) and a lot of the night life is for college students down on 6th St., etc. Don't get me wrong, it is neat to visit but a true feel of Texas people and the culture, Austin is not it (just my honest opinion). San Antonio is so neat and the people are so nice. Lots to do there, too. We go down there at least twice a year because we love it! 😊 Either way, have a blast visiting Texas!!!!! As a proud Dallas-native... go to Austin! ;) Austin is the oasis of Texas - you'll definitely have more fun there (picture hip, artsy, liberal with a Texas flair). But if you're looking for the more stereotypically Texan experience, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is your vibe. Fort Worth is a little bit more old school (it's where the Stockyards take place) and that'd likely be a good area to get your boots and hats. Dallas definitely has its perks too (there's a phenomenal restaurant - one in Dallas and one in Fort Worth - called Spiral Diner. It's diner-styled vegan food!). If you can swing both, that'd be great in order to capture the diversity and size of the state. Whatever you decide, good luck!
