For us, the first step to building our family compound is installing a reliable road. We've shown you our road before and between the streams to cross, the divots in the dirt, steep hills, and soupy mud - gettin up to our campsite is quite the challenge. When this job is done - its gonna be a piece of cake! The construction begins and were off to a great start - but will the AR Spring weather cooperate?
We unveil a HUGE Addition to our 41.36 - one we have told you we were going to make, we just had no idea it would happen this soon! BUT IT DID! And we are So THANKFUL and blessed to say the least! BIG MOVES GUYS! BIG FRIGGIN MOVES!!!

Tornadoes are part of being Arkansans, we had one hit next to us last year, don't wait until you hear that train roar. Not trying to tell you what to do, but a storm shelter is so important. Please get one installed.

My son dug a new well last year. Down 135 ft. And when they hit that vein it shot just like the oil wells! It cleared the top of the drill! What a vein it runs constantly the back flow he ran into a cattle tire watering system. It never runs dry and the other part runs down the ditch so the little creak is full for his cattle as well. It's an artesian well, he has a couple places that run anyway. So they are building a lake in the back of the farm filled naturally. The County needs dirt for a job trying to elevate the roads as d and putting a new bridge in. So he sold the dirt to them and it clears the area of stumps and trees as well. It pays for itself. He works for he County and actually runs the big trackhoe anyway so works out great. The good trees he sells and has a sawmill too for making the ruff wood he needs as well. He works full time, farms have 6 farms, and a logger. He worked so hard and his wife does as well to keep things going. They have 2 boys 13+4 yrs old, so life is great. Try and see if logger in the area may buy the trees that need thinning and find a mill in your area to have them mill some for you out of your logs. If you have Amish in the area they may have a mill check it out. We have 2 men who will bring their mill to your home and mill your logs for barns and the lumber needed to frame your home. It's worth a try, using your trees to build is great. Your wooded area looks like it could use a good clearing for the younger trees to get as chance to grow and not be crowded out.

I'm in the UK, and many years back at our old farmhouse we had to dig for a new water supply. As it happened, we had friends from Sri Lanka staying, and they use dowsing a lot over there to find water, so we gave it a go. Not only did we pinpoint the site of the original well from several centuries back, we found the sweet spot for an artisan well right next to the house, which saved us a huge amount of money in piping it to the house. We had a great time, and learned a lot about how these old methods can still be relevant today.

Since you first arrived there at 41.36 all I could think of was Walt Whitman's "O Pioneers" although you aren't moving west! I admire your joy at breaking ground at your brand new location. "Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain shall become level, and the rough places a plain." Isaiah 40:4. And now to have an amazing water well springing up! So soon after arriving! I am so happy for you and your family!

I am super excited for you for getting that well in so quickly! Having water is such a blessing!!!! And to see the bulldozing of trees to widen your driveway! Can't wait to see that all done and completed for you. It's amazing what a bulldozer can all do. Our excavator is always extremely busy because he is so popular that we have to book him way far in advance so you are all so lucky to get him so fast! Course, I live in Minnesota so we have a shorter time to work with things due to snow and extreme cold and getting frost out of the ground and dealing with rain during the spring and mud/slim from our clay soil. Looking forward to seeing more!!! Twister is an awesome cat!!!! It's wondering having animals to help you out in so many ways.

That was really Kool to get water that fast! And for him to know there was more water further down! Just incredible! What about electricty? Is that coming next? And don't forget to dig that storm shelter, make it big enough for everyone to lay down in just in case you have to stay down in it over night. And stock it very well. Small camp stove, mylar packs of food, 5 gal buckets filled with water bottles, blankets, towels, wet wipes, sawdust or Pete moss, tp, and bags for the bucket toilet. I'm sure you know all this just a reminder. Much love from So.Cal.💟

Congratulations Mel and Gary for getting the water well done so fast and for reaching a level that will supply you all with enough water, that is totally awesome! You had a great guy (John) who came out to find water never mind get the well done in the same day, they rock! Also totally awesome to see the road had been started and can not wait to see how it comes out in the end. Just remind them where the water pipes are under ground so that they do not bull doze it or run over it with their heavy equipment. So looking forward to your next video and again congratulations!! ~peace

I tried to get you to make a drawing of the site BEFORE the construction began. I would have talked about having the proper spacing from the septic drain field to the well. The order of installation priority is key to design. Again, there is a priority to certain parts of the project. From the site drawing you will coordinate the building locations, sewer, water, electrical, and low voltage. The road is started but not finished until the underground utilities are installed. You only put it in to a sub base level or else you'll be doing it twice. The contractors will want to do what is the easiest for them, not necessarily what is best for you. The well should be 150 feet away from the house and uphill. It is hard to tell but the perk test goes first. The septic design is based on where the home will be and down hill, gravity you know. The tank is only 10 feet away and the field starts 20 feet from there. You will need undisturbed soil both for the primary and the secondary field. If there is a big Rock outcropping you may have to move the location. This is all reasons for drawing it out before starting. Sorry for rambling, just trying to save you some headaches.
