Takeshi's Castle was, legit, one of the most fun show. There was a game where you would have to sit on a pile of pillows singing karaoke and there was a simulated earthquake and the winner was the one who stayed on their pillows.

It's Total Wipeout on crack. There was a round where you had to full sprint across stepping stones and the sheer amount of people who would very violently smack themselves on the stepping stones is crazy.

Nobetterman the other part of it is the fact they come up with crazy backstories for the characters and dub them saying really weird funny shit and would sometimes mess with the footage for comedy. The one that always sticks out was “professional bull milker” and one where a woman runs on top of big dominoes and they played the footage multiple times pretending she’s doing it over and over again

Add to that the constant derision aimed at him due to his aging, him having a fairly emotional interview when asked about the MeToo movement and him stepping back a bit from the limelight, it's not surprising his career took a downturn. He's doing better but nowhere near where he was when he was at the height of his fame.
