That's right baby, we're the police now. Time to cruise around looking for violators! Now only that but we're set up for racing! With the race car setup we've got the racing tires on, a lower gear ratio of 3.7, and we're going to try and get the 1/4 mile track done as quickly as possible. We manage to get down to around 17 seconds, which isn't bad, but we could probably do better if we stripped some stuff down and maybe changed the gear ratio even more. Remember the first time we did the quarter mile we got 19.5 seconds so...we're making progress! Also just because I finally utilize the magic Finnish portal that opens when you drink enough beer.

ABOUT: MY SUMMER CAR:
MY SUMMER CAR is the ultimate car owning, building, fixing, tuning, maintenance AND permadeath life survival simulator. You start the game with hundreds of loose parts and assemble both car and engine. Not only you need to maintain your car, but yourself as well. Sausages, beer and sleeping will do just fine.
If everything goes well, you have a working car which you can use for various 1990's Finnish countryside summer activities. Basically doing stupid things under influence of alcohol. After you have gathered extra money from various random jobs, you can start to tune and upgrade the car with parts ordered via snail mail. You can turn the car into a obnoxious bass-boom disco machine.... or into a rally car to participate rally competitions... or just fix it into perfect factory condition. Of course car also needs to pass the inspection or you might get into trouble with police.
Not only you have access to one car, but also several other cars and vehicles which you can use. (Mostly useful to get groceries and for towing the project car from some ditch, again).
Warning, this game is not for fainted heart. Severe car fever is required to play this properly due to it's autistic approach on car building.

gray a higher gear ratio like 410 makes your acceleration better but you have a lower top speed a lower gear ratio makes your acceleration worse but you get a higher top speed

That's correct! 4.62 will give you a lot of power to the wheels, so probably more acceleration but also more wheelspin. 3.7 or lower will go for a higher top speed and longer gears which are easier to handle. I think for drag racing the 4.1 can be a good bet, but 3.9 or 3.7 are good for rallying and cruising around :)

The gearing is all out of whack for 1/4 mile, you need to have 4 :1 gear ratio at least for 1/4 mile, 3:7s are for when you have a much longer distance to cover to maximize speed, your current setup would be ok for a 1/2 mile pass. You might even have to go to 4:3 - 4:5 since its a 4-gear car to be maxing out in 4th going through the line. Not sure why people are suggesting 3:7 gears on a 4-speed car for a 1/4 mile...

3.73 is like an average highway gear, not super on top end, not great on acceleration either. This is from the My Summer Car Wikia: "For best times tune your Satsuma with the highest final gear ratio (4.625), so the 4th gear becomes usable on the straights and tune the carburator for acceleration from mid to high revs." I tried'em all, and honestly 4.625 or lower gave me best results (and by lower I mean the bigger numbers)

Yo Gray take the sausages out before you start that will help a bit and also youre revving while waiting for the light which is good but it seems like you let off right before dropping the clutch which makes the engine bog down and you have no power making you slowly roll away from the start line could also be the way the controls work for the keyboard im not sure so it might not even be your fault. but the key to a good launch is for the rpms to be up at maybe try 5000 rpms, seems to be right in the middle of its powerband. so you want to start accelleratingwhen the light goes at 5k rpms and if the controls allow you do not want to let of the gas at all after you start moving and you will spin the tires a bit in first which will make the engine redline. the key then is to let it do it a couple times because youre still gaining speed you naturally will want to shift when you hear the rpms around 8k but you gotta fight the urge to shift til the tires hook (stop spinning) THEN the rpms will steadily go up then shift into second. and youre good with what youre already doing after that. also this particular gear-set does not seem optimal for drag racing but would be good in the straight-aways in the rally because of how tall 4th gear is

Yeah, racing slicks on gravel are definitely sub-optimal as far as traction goes-but awesome for learning how to handle low-traction conditions. I learned the Scandinavian flick by trying stuff on Need For Speed2 VRally, then taking a Paseo with high-performance tires out on a smooth gravel road irl. Sketchy but fun!

Holy Shite that really cracked me up. The Finish beer truly has the power of the sun. Just an FYI, if you want a lower gear pick a bigger number, adversely the lower number gives you a higher gear. In short small number for highway speed, big number for acceleration. Your 3.7 ratio is not low, it is high, much like you, when you were standing on the roof of your cop car drinking beer and pissing all over the place. Good gawd that was fucking hilarious! I hope this game gets an update soon, I love it.

The higher the gear ratio, the faster the acceleration but the lower the top speed, so ideally, the higher number the better it is for rally as you are accelerating out of the corners and there isnt many straights in rally. Drag seems quite short so maybe it might be good for drag as well. I use 4.410 but i have only just got this ratio and got 2nd in the rally with the original ratio and have not done drag yet

For drag racing you want your revs to be maxed out in top gear as you get to the finish line. Shorten up the ratios (bigger numbers) try somewhere around 4.5 and if you're still not maxed make the number bigger.

a higher gear will give you more low end torque and a lower gear will give you more speed on the top end. I suggest a gear in the fours for drag racing. especially if you were only running a 1/8th mile

dear gray different types of race require different ratios. its why some salt flats cars run qwik swap gears. low ratio for dragging, hi ratio for rally. you have plenty of money so experiment.

the higher the number on your final gear the lower your gear is. Low gear is good for drag racing... High gears "low final gear number" the faster you go..

Gear ratio depends on a ton of variables in real life, tire size, HP even the transmission but rule of thumb a 3.7 would be more highway gear and give higher top end, but for a 1/4 mile car a 4.1 would be faster off the line which for a drag guy you’re worried about your 60 foot and 1/8 mile times, but you loose top end speed because you will red line faster. I play your videos in my shop and people love them.

When you got the "Finnish Wedding" achievment, it meant that you had approximiatly drank as many beers as a normal finnish guest at a wedding. Best regards, Finnish wedding-goer No but for real, I don't know how it is in the US, but in Finland there is an unwritten rule, that if you are a guest at someones wedding, and there is free alcohol, you may not leave until you pass out or puke. and yes, the newlywed couple usually joins in as well.

the lower the number of your gear ratio the faster you go. rock crawlers that are still street legal and more offroad rally cars use 4.10s usually.

4.10 is a ratio. every 4 times the transmition turns, the differential turns 10. so 3.75 gears are much more top speed sos the 2.xx or the 1.xx. they make the car accelarate slower but able to go faster in the long run.

So if the fifth gear in my gearbox has a ratio of 1 and i have a 4.10 final gear, when I cruise at 4000 rpm engine speed my rear wheels rotate at 10 000 rpm. I think NOT! In fact final gears in cars are heavily reductive. A 4.10 final drive reduces 4.1 rotations of a trasmission output shaft to one (1) rotation at the wheels.

The best gear ratio for racing in terms of top speed would be 3.7000. You'll be so fast that you'll bury the needle on the speedometer all the way back around to 0.
