He spends 85% of Drifting wrestling with internal voices telling him he’s not enough. The last 15% is him punching those voices in the mouth and fighting back against it with TRUTH.

I feel sorry for the dude, on a personal level. I understand the voices in his head thing cuz I've had schiz for 6 years. You don't hear literal voices they're just large, heavy thoughts that you know aren't you but you can't escape them. Other people would be able to say "okay, I'm gonna make some tea, take a bath, meditate, and relax. I'll be fine". We can't do that. They're inescapable and we just have to wait for them to pass. They have meds for it but they only take the edge off and the side effects include major depression and suicidal tendencies so even the meds make it worse.

The first 3/4 is him lulled and drifting through with all these things and sounds around him, the last yelling section was him fighting back, then everything in the background drops and it's finally just him and abruptly ends.... to me the song itself is a metaphor of life...
@MurasakiNoKami2 жыл бұрын
This song to me feels like a dissociative episode. Bits and pieces of random thoughts flowing through your mind but nothing really sticking. An underlining feeling that nothing really matters, not even yourself. And when you finally break out of it, the rush of emotions and reminders that what you just thought is untrue and you do matter. Which is usually abrupt and always overwhelming.

This is my absolute favorite. I love all of the words that he says and... man, the ending. It's like holding back everything and then spitting every part of your soul, getting out all that you've been carrying with this MASSIVE message. He said he added that part when the song was already finished, because he didn't feel like it was enough for him, and it needed something more... and so he did. This is a masterpiece to me.

Yas!!!!!! So I see the song and the sounds- when you are drifting into depression- it's calm, but something is not right- aka the beat- you can't put your finger on what is off. Struggling with different voices in your head- coming out of nowhere. But once he brings God in..... takes control, everything comes together. I love this song! Plus the lyrics of course lol

I love how the base of the song sounds like what happens to your focus when you’re “drifting” in and out. There are the long, connected notes (when you’re spacing out or drifting) and then the abrupt “hey” when you snap back into the present focus.

I saw it like drifting on the river, you have the calm and smooth then you hit the rapids. The negative thoughts and fear was trying to overtake him making him feel lost and not going anywhere. Then the last part was him making up his mind to fight and strive to get out of the rutt and move forward

It’s by far my favorite NF song, I could let this play on repeat in the background when I’m deep into a project or in a dark mood…it helps. This track resonates with who I am, it truly showcases NF’a talent and ability to do something completely different, things that haven’t been done before. Can’t wait for Trust. At first wasn’t a hit for me, I’m not a huge rap fan, and by rap I mean like the usual 808 hard hitting talking about the stereotypical stuff, I only listen to rap to hype myself up really. Nate’s rap is obviously very different. But I’ve listened to it a lot over the past 2 weeks especially with you guys reacting to it and I just finished Dev Lethal’s run of the NF experience. It’s a banger, I love Nate’s verse, and the chorus is one of his most hype ones. Tech N9ne went off as well although I don’t connect with him as much as I do Nate. Can’t wait for next week!

This song goes from very melancholy, showing his emotional and mental tide cycle to finally his final defiant rant of power and purpose. He's doing the things he's wanted to try musically which has always been traditionally revealed on mixtapes. I'm actually surprised that a more polished version of "Chasing" wasn't on the Clouds Mixtape. It speaks to when he said (in Layers) "usually I don't alter my traditions, foreign to me..hit 'em with the Switch up...I just had to get this out my system ". Feels like carry through of that sentiment.

this reaction is the perfect example of why i can actually watch all your reaction videos over and over again because when you guys pause you dont only 'break down bars' but you guys also put your thoughts into the bars which not a lot of reactors do. and you guys dont do the typical, "oh yeah, relatable" crap they do every time they pause which some do a whole lot, then talked shit about Nate the next time they react to a newer song and bash him for sounding 'the same'. and also bc you guys relate to NF more than a lot of these other reactors. so glad i found yall man.

Absolutely love this song. Literally blew my mind when I first heard it after I smoked a good few bowls and just lie down with my eyes closed and just was taken on a whole rollercoaster and learned this song IMMEDIATELY. At the end of the song, it feels like he's been battling himself for so long and he's grown so tired and tapped into his anger on how he has felt this way for ages and this is just him pouring out his soul and saying he's going to get through this shit. No matter what.

The feeling of drifting in my opinion is the exact feeling you have when you are drifting away internally (dying in the inside) and then the very end is such an awakening moment and breaking out of your chains type of rise. As someone who was suicidal growing up, it felt like moments when I was so close to losing it. And then breaking myself out.

This song is very powerful to me. I listen to it a lot, especially when I feel something unfamiliar. Emotions, fears, feelings. NF is a relatable rapper. Therapeutic and relatable. On multiple occasions Nate has saved my life by his music alone. He gives me mind to continue even when I want it all to end. I don't know him. But I swear he knows my what my life is like.

Thinking about nf, it really amazes me that he's got me anticipating his take on life with Hope finally stepping up to the plate. I haven't been this excited for something since I was a little kid. And I cannot wait to see the rest! He's a muse for me in my life. I've been through a lot of trauma in my life and he nails my emotions and battles with every track he drops. It's renewing the will in me to fight harder to overcome my shortcomings. I was lost when I was blessed with my kids, I battle failing them (mainly because of fear of my scars and the sickness that I've allowed to grow out of that bullshit), and I'm so thankful that I have a place to go to for inspiration with explaining it. When my kids are finally old enough to understand what I've been through and how it's affected me I plan to use his songs to help provide a better understanding. We are truly blessed to have his impact on our lives.

The ending reminds me of ''REAL scary... Carrey the verse'' as one walks through the graveyard of a dream slowly drifting trying to escape the real-ities of regrets then.... an arm suddenly reaches from the grave and shakes you to wake you... will we chose to live in that bed of regrets upstairs never to return to the living.... or will we rise and connect to that which gives us new life? Great great insight guys.... ;)

The elevator verse also references outro. Where he has been growing to the top of the charts, and even when he tops other major rappers he still isn't recognized and instead come down on from the media. He is saying that even when that happens and the elevator is out, he doesn't care, he will just take the stairs. He will never stop! It is such a bar when looked at in context.

In recognizing that this is part of the mix tape, this song still took a moment to grow on me. But it certainly expresses the message accurately, and it's catchy by the end of it as they piece together the instruments. To be fair, I have to be ready for the song when I hear it.

The music to me represents the chaos in the world/mind, the stop and start of too many thoughts, leaving you drifting w/in your mind. As NF so perfectly articulates-the main section of this song is the feeling of being lost in chaos of sounds, drifting in the wrong thoughts and feeling. Where the end is like finding a purpose “as words collide”, I picture him becoming a phoenix “giving him faith to rise.”, no longer being okay w/drifting through life…his outcry at the end shows NF is less ”convicted” by the lies he’s “insignificant ” and chose to “innovate” a place where” he can’t remain afraid”…in a nutshell, it’s abt being lost to the noise, stuck drifting, but in the end becoming worthy of finding change!

If I may touch on the mental health aspect of this, at least from my perspective, this is about as close as I can describe what having anxiety/depression combined with trauma surrounding neglect and abuse. You disassociate so badly sometimes it’s almost like an out of body experience. Almost like you’re in an aquarium watching the world around you, and sometimes you can’t separate events going on in the present and the memories that just take hold and don’t let go. His four bars at the end is that moment where you’re fighting-as hard as you can, sometimes with EVERY bit of energy you can muster to come up for air and rejoin the present.

Trust is gonna be EPIC with you guys, can wait. DRIFTING… if you dig deeper into the lyrics of this song this starts to seem like a deeper global/nautical theme, “watching the world go round.” Unknown sounds" is a nautical reference, sounds are another word for sea ports where the water is calm (like Puget Sound, Seattle). "Drifting in the same boat as you" NF is docking in unknown places. That one one echoing "ping" sound is like a ping that submarines use. Also the word "sound" is also used to describe the process of determining the depth of water in a tank or under a ship. NF doesn't know how deep the waters he is drifting into. "Sinking dreaming, screaming for some truth" and of course that last intense part: "Give me the faith to rise" (to the surface) "immersed in my belligerence amplified"… so good. I have a feeling that NFs new album may have a navigation theme. NF just went through the Search now he is navigating using the "Map to Hope" (The Search).

Also, with the song title "Drifting", the unique beat creates a ton of empty spaces of noise to emulate drifting or almost being pulled out to sea by waves -- being carried by an outside force.
