I listen to audiobooks over reading a physical book. I have ADHD and reading homework trauma. So I find when I have a physical book, I get really anxious and just want to finish it as fast as possible but then I skip like half the lines. When I read it on a digital device or listen to an audiobook, I find the "30 minutes left" is far more abstract than "30 pages left." And because I have ADHD, I can't passively listen to a book. I have to actively listen.
@stevencox8140 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, the Epic of Gilgamesh was written on clay tablets. They used tools to press the words in before baking them solid. Much easier than carving. Also awesome to note it has gay undertones and talks about the story as having taken place a long time ago. 4000 years ago they were writing about "ancient times". We are hilarious creatures.

I have a friend that can read at crazy speeds and I asked her about it, apparently they don't go line by line. They way she out it was that her brain takes in the whole page as a block and can recall it the same way you look at signs and know what they say before your consciousness catches that you didn't actively read the words. Same thing just at a higher scale

I know it's a joke but as person who got a lot of university classes on oral literature I always cringe so much about things like needing to write down Epic of Gilgamesh :D It would be more like Wench has also always the one constant epithet, Complying Wench. So if I wrote so much about it now, I may say that if we want the oldest written book but in more modern sense, like someone wrote it in on papyrus in their room with thought that someone will read it silently from papyrus in their room (and not with thought that this is primarly for feast/for festivities etc.), we should go to 3rd B.C. Alexandria. That someone could be Callimachus, Philitas of Cos or some other scholar from Library of Alexandria.

@tobiaswedin Жыл бұрын
@@xavmanisdabestest I'm not just thinking of the ones that they mentioned in the video but also every time someone just makes an assumption and runs with it i steady of asking a simple question. And those are in most anime and manga regardless of genre.
@Junosensei Жыл бұрын
@@tobiaswedin - Some of my favorite series do this on purpose to the reader/viewer. Like, they do or say something that causes the characters and audience to make assumptions, and when the twist is revealed, it's so obvious that you have to go back, only to find yourself smacked in the face by all the hints you should've picked up. Of course, these things often work better in short series/twists, since long-running series/twists tend to get enough attention long enough for someone to notice the trick.
