I think the mystery box serves as a bumper for the mattress, holding it in place and away from the window and wall where condensation may build while sleeping in it.

You guys are doing a great job on this renovation. One thing you may want to do is seal around those cab clearance lights as I think that is where your water intrusion may have come from that rotted out that box. It would be a good idea to also go around the RV after the interior reno and seal all windows and lights, etc. to keep the water intrusion at bay. As far as the fiberglass batt insulation for that cap; I would have gone with the spray foam too. As a retired general contractor; my personal opinion about fiberglass insulation is that it belongs in the walls and ceilings of homes and buildings and not in an RV. The rigid foam insulation (Foamular) that you used in the upper front cap was perfect for that application. Someday, I hope RV manufacturers use Foamular in all areas of RV's and completely eliminate using fiberglass insulation. Looking forward to the next video.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but condensate is also part of the problem up there. The rain doesn't even have to get in, it gets created on the inside too.
@writingtruthinwisdom18352 күн бұрын
Does bat insulation work better for condensation? No, spray foam insulation generally does a better job at stopping condensation than batt insulation because spray foam creates a more airtight seal and acts as a vapor barrier, while batt insulation typically requires a separate vapor barrier to prevent moisture buildup; meaning spray foam is more effective at preventing condensation issues. Good job guys
@markpcoloКүн бұрын
The thought is changing. Insurance companies are denying coverage for total foam insulated houses. It actually traps moisture.

Remember that the sleeping place will actually be more cramped once you install a mattress up there. The box part in front probably kept the mattress from sliding closer to the window. When you did your 740lb haul to the dump I had flash backs to my summer of fixing my lawn at my house cause I ripped up so much weeds and had to haul to dump myself that in one week I had 740lbs of weeds and I hauled it in the back of my RAV4 to the dump (like 8km away), took way more than 1 trip though for me. Luckily green stuff was free to dump cause my township doesn’t have yard waste pickup as a part of our weekly trash pickup.
