10:38 Alec is basically correct, there's an unused controller layout in GH1 named "egozy" that I believe to be either for the rainbow fret guitars, or even maybe the *original* prototype guitars that were the 5-fret Guitar Freaks guitars.

I feel so vindicated including that wuLFe79 interview with the pre-alpha Rock Band stuff after hearing Jake was introduced to him through it. I can't take credit for scanning the images; the scans are actually from RetroMags, which has full scans of tons of Game Informer issues, including the two these articles are taken from (Issue 171/July 2007, and Issue 172/August 2007). I'm just glad I remembered the articles existed at all and that I remembered exactly which issues had them.

Hear me out: Alongside UEFN Festival support, we get a 4th Festival game mode called Back Stage, where you create, download, and play custom tracks just like YARG or Clone Hero. And if you look at someone's profile while in any of the four Festival modes you can see their list of created and downloaded customs.
@metalapplesus
@metalapplesus 21 күн бұрын
Maybe songs are available by code by default, but what if creators can lock their customs behind flags in their experiences? Like say someone makes "Guitar Hero 3 but Kazoo", and at the end you can unlock the ability to play "TTFAF Kazoo" in Back Stage once you beat it

Well said to Jason on contextualisation. I couldn't really gel with the Clone Hero 'all mechanics, all the time' approach, it just wasn't the same as seeing the characters and venues from the old games, so I'm very glad RB3DX and WTDE exist, and that iirc YARG's long-term plan is to support character models (a framework for stages already exists, people have put Black Mesa in as a venue). Even if Festival's animations are lackluster, the ecosystem overall and the fact it's a constantly evolving game, currently supported, is what keeps me logging in weekly. I like seeing what instruments and skins and songs and emotes people pick to express themselves. I like having little jam sessions before the setlist. Now, if only they changed that Hard to Expert jump and gave a proper Practice mode, we'd be on a great path.

When you guys talked about the hard to expert curve, this is one of the biggest gripes i have with pro charts in festival. I'm good enough to not play hard, but not good enough to play expert well. Hard literally has no fast strums so to get used to fast strumming, I've been throwing myself at the wall to get better. I can play expert on pad no problem, but pro is a crazy leap in difficulty with no good hard charts. Instead of doing a clone I just bought Rock band 4 to help learn because it actually has practice mode.

Download YARG and a some full-difficulty custom song packs. Clone Hero is an option too but I recommend YARG because it's tighter and will train you for Festival better. Also, just do alt-strumming on slow songs to get used to it.

I love the small diss to Xbox with the peripheral/instrument issue. A lot of games that required peripherals to play that were also cross platform ran into the same issue, causing a major headache for anyone who wants to jump in to some of these games now. Almost every peripheral for Xbox HAS to have somewhere "for Xbox ____" with the console version after (so One, 360). Really annoying when Playstation and Nintendo peripherals could be interchanged no issue, but Xbox needs to be special, especially given their general ease of connectivity to PC, be it controller or game. Hard to Expert is rough though. On the normal mode (aka all taps), it's not so bad and my journey to expert that way was pretty smooth, only taking about 2-3 weeks. Pro though is scary to try. Expert is either doable, hard but still possible to pass with 5 stars, or impossible to get beyond 3 for me. If I try to go down a difficulty, get used to strumming again (since I move between "normal" and pro a lot), the song just feels half-baked. The lower difficulties really need the charts to be more "fun." Fun does not mean easy all the way. Facing the difficulty is core to the experience. Pro needs people dedicated to the easy-hard charts, because this is where the majority of the player base is at. If they play a song and the gameplay just doesn't hit the same (like "vibe" the same) as the song, then I guarantee their enjoyment of the mode in general will diminish. I love the work they do for Expert (both pro and "normal"), but we can't forget the people who want to play casually (at a lower difficulty), learn the game (which also warrants a practice mode, but besides the point), or people experiencing songs or this type of game for the first time. GH in Fortnite would be crazy though. I don't even need songs (I don't even know how that would work, we already have a few featured in GH games), I want skins of Johnny Napalm, Axel Steel, Judy Nails, etc. Stages from the game would go hard, but we never see that with other collabs beyond the Festival seasonal change. Probably never going to happen (because Activision forgot they own that franchise), but is unironically my pipe dream for Fortnite collabs.

For me Festival feels basically like reverse WT taps. I know I'm missing the notes but the game still accepts them as played perfectly. It's really noticeable on hopos.

Yeah, I was definitely expecting Fast Solo on Hard to have a lot more teeth to it, given its reputation for being crazy difficult. Some triplets or maybe a trill would've worked great, instead of strumming only a sixth of the notes. That's not gonna help Hard players get ready for Expert, the gap is too massive. It could be auto-generated, since you're strumming on every half-beat. I did play two custom Rock Band songs where the auto-generated Hard chart was almost exactly the same as the Expert chart in terms of how quickly they throw notes at you, and both were high BPM songs (Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer" and Fall Out Boy's "I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me"), so that's where I'm basing this off on.

when i started playing in december the difficulty jump from hard to expert was hard because hard only has 4 lanes and just removes the fifth one until you get to expert, i essentially had to relearn how to play on expert cause i was so used to using the 4 buttons i wish they would’ve just kept the fifth lane in and mapped the right most button to orange when playing on easier difficulties

I don't normally leave comments on yt, like in general, but since y'all mentioned the difficulty curve on Festival Pro Lead charts I thought I'd leave one. Festival is actually my first time playing with a guitar controller (playing on a Riffmaster after I managed to order one like a month ago) I started playing on Medium and now I'm good enough to FC most Hard charts if I try hard enough. I played SOME Expert charts (of not even that hard songs) and the difficulty spike is ridiculous at times, but that isn't exclusive to just Hard-to-Expert charts. The difficulty between different charts on Hard is weird. I played One recently and it legit feels like it's one of the easiest Metallica songs in the game, if not for some of the chord changes I had problems hitting at the time I could've sightread FC'd it, for comparison I have 90% on Battery and 88% on Master of Puppets. A lot of Hard charts use so little HOPOs (if any) compared to Expert charts, few examples being Hail to the King, one part of Dragula, S.O.M.P. or Change (and obviously One), you have sections just littered with HOPOs on Expert and have the same sections on Hard be singular presses and/or strums. Since I play so much I got a lot better at the game (obviously lol) for example I went from like 80-ish% on Down with the Sickness to almost FC'ing it, part of the reason also being that they fixed the HOPO chords because last season I could barely hit anything even when it felt like I should've, but also from missing most chord changes on songs like Before I Forget, Lord Of The Wasteland or You're All Mine to consistently hitting most of them, I even sightread FC'd Unsainted few days ago. That doesn't mean that the Hard charts themselves aren't difficult at all, like Master of Puppets or Battery are still really hard for me as I mentioned above. Few other examples: I'm having a difficult time hitting most of the HOPOs in Sad But True, some chord changes in Lux Æterna are still hard, hell I'm still struggling to FC Mr. Brightside. The way I'll move to playing on Expert on Festival is when I'll get like ~95% on Master of Puppets because I feel like I'll be good enough to switch over (not necessarily good enough for high percentages tho lol) I guess I can also mention I play YARG sometimes, which I play Medium because the difficulty of the charts is way higher.

compared to rb4 hard and medium charts for festival are snoozefests, medium is mostly just chord changing every 4 seconds for a lot of songs hard is generally more filled in but yeah there is a lot of times where i was disappointed at the hard chart, like with don’t fear the reaper the hard chart just felt like medium and barely strummed the oranges which is imo the hardest part in ple (pro lead expert) chart to nail consistently

But i agree that every artist that comes (at least from the ones we "know") their main key role is to open the gates to more songs in their respective genre. More Pop, more Rock, More Rap, etc
