I have a question; Do your motors ever come out of the water in choppy seas? I am doubting between 6Kw outboard and 6 Kw pod. Currently I have an 25hp outboard and when I go against the sea the prop sometimes (often) gets out of the water. A pod would solve this, but it makes extra holes in the hull.

Unfortunately they do when I get hit by a big wake, or if I'm heading into a very choppy sea. It's a pain but so far has been manageable. You won't believe how often in my design I went from pods to outboards and back. I'm still not sure I made the right decision. Pods won't cavitate, but they will be affected by growth and add holes to the boat, it's also impossible to see if they have anything caught on the props and to clear them without swimming. Outboards cavitate, but to me that's the only problem at the moment. I also have a slight suspicion that my outboards are marginally more efficient than the pods would be, because they push into clear water, not into the rudders. It's a hunch, not a fact though. If I had to do it again I still don't know which I would choose!

@@SailingElectra how about regeneration? I think a pod might do better on that because it doesn't cavitate.

@@SailingEagleWings you don't get Regen unless you buy the ePropulsion battery, and they're quite expensive for the capacity, so no regen for me either way...
