This comment has nothing to do with sailing, but of all the couples on KZbin, you guys are just so likable…..

Congratulations Adam and Khiara! What an accomplishment in completing this crossing to Iceland. Now, getting around to possibly being clouted on the noggin by Khiara. Women, according to my reading, carry more body fat than men. This is reportedly an evolutionary adaptation related to childbearing. This could, at least partially, by the extra warmth extra fat could contribute to the bearer, explain Adam’s attraction to extra clothing while in the Arctic sleeping bag.

Adam, the Gods were smiling on you the day they decided to drop this beautiful woman right next to you. I have had the same blessing and know that your gratitude will grow until it is greater than you ever thought imaginable. Well done to you both. Regards, Rick.

I'm a bit behind on your videos, but have to say - I am so incredibly happy for you two. I mean, I'm also pretty jealous, but mostly I am overwhelmingly happy for you. What an amazing adventure. You've done with style and grace and always kept that wonderful sense of humor. Oh, I know there were many moments you didn't record that were perhaps not so glamourous, but all in all you've done it, and you can be so proud of yourselves for that. Bravo Zulu!

You are very lucky. To be able to see the world. It must be really disorientating to see so much day light. I did smile when I saw Adam with all that gear on I half expected a Scott's man to sail by in a T shirt. No but you are very skillful. Stay safe

What a great passage. You should both be very proud of yourselves. When on passage you may want to try sleeping with your feet forward. If you hit something, like a whale or rock, the boat will stop dead in its tracks. Your body will continue forward until you hit the bulkhead. Better to break an ankle than your neck. This happen once while racing. We hit a rock at 6 knots and a sleeping crew member ended up with 15 stitches on the top of his head. Lucky that was the extent of the injury.

A couple of weeks ago about 40 boats raced from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay. We saw dozens of whales. It was amazing, even for a group of racers. Pretty much every boat made whale watching a priority. I even saw a whale jump out of the water. First time ever. Then a mother and calf. Truly amazing.

Haha yep, I don’t think he expected to hear ‘the Caribbean’! We are definitely owed some tattooes now! 🥳 Adam is at risk of looking like a crazy bird fan though as his only other tattoo is an eagle… and then we’ve named our boat the Falcon… 5 swallows may be putting him a tad on the ‘bird fanatic’ side 😂

A massive achievement surmounting some testing problems on route, great drone and whale footage. Iceland is a stunning place, hire a car too if you've got the time, get a 4x4 one as the dirt / gravel roads really take you into the wildeness, there are plenty of dirt roads that are easy for a small 4x4 you just need a bit of ground clearance.

You;ll love being there in Iceland, my wife and I were there in February and we loved it. Near where you berthed, there is a phenomenal fish and chips place. It looks a litttle divey but the food there is really good. The best place for lobster bisque (soup) is Verbúð 11 very near the place you tied up to. Have fun!!

Adam you'd be better off stripping down to a boundary layer at most... Since that kind of sleeping bag is designed for low temps, honestly nothing you wear underneath it will really help till you start approaching the limit of the bag. Just try it!

As to being able to deal with heat or cold - the difference between Khiara and Adam - this is genetic (in the genetic make up of your mitochondria that we inherit from our mothers). There are only between 5 and 10 genetically different kinds of mitochondria in homo sapiens AFAIK. Our energy sources are in all sorts of molecules and the mitochondria play a role in conversion into energy for heat and energy for muscles. You can imagine that Inuit (AKA Eskimo) have a variant that turns most basic energy into heat capacity and a bit into energy for muscles. The dominant variant of mitochondria in the people of the Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia region makes most energy available for use in muscles and no or little heat.
