I mean; Black Pete certainly has his faults. Everyone does. But I think he's genuinely always been a sweetheart deep down; he apologizes to Frenchie after ruining his flag, he's very respectful towards the rest of the crew and sympathizes with Stede during the dinner with Badminton. I think the first half of the season, there's a lot of insecurities he's dealing with and he is just very desperately trying to compensate by trying to tell made-up stories about himself and Blackbeard. And with that comes a slight pinch of toxic masculinity which he unlearns by being adored and taken care of by Lucius in the second half of the season. Lucius helps Pete stay grounded, but also lets him know that he doesn't have to pretend to be liked, because Lucius already likes (LOVES) him for who he is. And it turns him into this adorable goofball that loves his boyfriend and wants to take care of him. I wish I was more like Black Pete
