Very nice video. I've day hiked all the way around the rim of Convict Lake a number of times but I've recently become interested in backpacking the upper lakes. I especially liked your campsites the first evening. Looks like it was able to accommodate everyone in your group. A few sections of the trail looked a little sketchy, narrow, steep and loose gravel. I can see you really need to pay attention and be careful. I think I'll give it a try next summer in 2023.

Thank you! Yes the first campsite is the first one you come to, but by far it had the best view. If you go towards the left side of the lake there are more spots that could accommodate even bigger groups. Enjoy your hike next year! We only hit the 2 lakes but there are many more up there if you have more time to visit that area.

Great video. Curious -- any issues with your dog's paws on the rock. I have a lab about the same size and was wondering if dog booties were needed or if it was fine. thanks!

She does a lot of hiking with us and we haven't had any issues with her paws. The trail was pretty much dirt except for two areas where there were some bigger rocks.

Your video is the first one to pop up from my search for this trail and it looks amazing at Lake Dorothy. Do you know if there is any campsite at Mildred Lake? How is the creek crossing since I read that some crossing is sketchy? Is the trail from Mildred Lake to Lake Dorothy easy to find and hike? Our group has a reservation to do this trail in late July this year. Thank you in advance for any insights or tips.

First off, thank you for watching! It was an amazing trip! There are campsites at Mildred right before you get to the lake and at the back side where the trail starts up the last mountain. Once you get up to that last mountain, you can see the cut in the mountain where the trail is and follow it to where it starts at the base. The creek crossing where the bridge is out is doable and not as sketchy as I thought it would be. The water did reach over by boot on one foot, so I had a wet boot for the remainder of the hike. I would suggest a pair of water shoes. Few other tips, for the most part, there is no shade, so we were exposed to the sun most the time. Also, between Mildred and Convict, the water crossing is the only place you can get water easily. You are following the stream the whole time, but it's below you down a pretty steep hill. Other than that, it was beautiful! Have fun!

Thank you! We usually do really good in the back country but we struggled to catch fish at Dorothy. I think over all we caught 3 and they were super small.

There is a parking lot right by the horse stables. It's right before the store and cabins. The parking is for the trail and there is a ton of it. Have fun!
