Wow! Making kombucha is a very detailed process and you explain is very well. I Ilike that you show the steps on how to make the starter in this video.

Bessie I finally learned how to read that strip thermometer. Apparently, I just needed to flash a light on it to see a white bar behind the number. This morning was a bit chilly so it was barely at 72°F. I had to move it to the kitchen counter. It's smelling pretty good though.

I love kombucha I have been making it for years. The scoby grows faster when the weather is warm.

It's in the high 80's to low 90's still in Southern California. Only one day this past week was about 78. I have 2 questions for you. When I use some of the starter tea and the pellicle to make my 1st batch (1st ferment) do I need to use a cup of this fermented batch to add to the scoby hotel? Also, when adding fruit to flavor the Kombucha, if we puree it first, will it get clumpy?

@@TheBarePantryShow the scoby hotel you always have to feed it with sweetened tea after you pour out the tea for the bottleling second fermentation. My family would not drink it if it's not smooth so I always puree it first or use my juicer and juice fruit. Or add store bought fresh juice.

@@myrnalulu Thank you Myrna, I understand what to do now. I still have another 5 days or so to make this original SCOBY so I won't be doing that first ferment just yet.

I've been drinking that one from Costco and I feel really good. I just do 4 oz a day though.

Making kombucha is exciting! I can’t wait to see the rest of the process. I’d love to know how much you spent on the ingredients to see if making it is cheaper. Kombucha is pretty pricey at the store and I could down the whole 16oz bottle in a day. My favorite flavor is ginger and lemon.

Every video I've watched the people say it's way cheaper to make it. My main goal is to get a flavor I like.

Can I use the liquid from the scoby 'hotel' from my last batch for a starter tea? The scoby has been in that jar two weeks in the pantry.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but let me see if I understand. I used some of the tea from my scoby hotel with the pellicle when brewed the 1st ferment, then I used the pellicle that grew in the brew to start another 1st ferment. The original pellicle that I used (the one that started as goop) had some body to it after the 1st ferment was done, but I gave it a rest in the hotel. I'm not sure that I really needed to do that, but my thoughts were "let grow the new pellicle big." Did this help?

This what Google says D Kombucha contains probiotics, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Some research suggests that kombucha may help with gut health, inflammation, and the immune system. It's fermented black tea.
