In the traditional Hammam, if you are a man either you take a shower by yourself or with the help of a massagist who's supposed to be a man. If your a woman It's the opposite. Because in religion a woman cannot touch a man who's not her husband and vice versa.

Let's be honest, Most Moroccans aren't strict Muslims and only a minority is that religious (Unfortunately or Fortunately depending on where you stand) Morocco has mosques and has bars and the choice is yours.

I know that they exist but there is no way you would compare their amount with the amount of mosques in each city in Morocco. I live in Azemmour (a small city near Casablanca) and there are more than 5 mosques and only one bar which is visited by a small minority of people. Most of those people are tourists.

Welcome to Morocco.. In the neighborhoods, the Moroccan hammam is only for a dollar and a half... But you do everything yourself, you only bring the things you need such as shampoo, comb, and .... You can also hire a person for $3 or $5 to make you clean, or you can do it yourself when it comes to your back. You can ask someone to help you for free. In the Moroccan hammam , everyone helps eachother, you can Even talk to them about different topics even if you don't know them.. You are a foreigner, they will help you for free, believe me.

good explanation of the neighborhood hammams; however, NO WAY you would direct tourists to these types of Hammams. Common!!! too much risk (risk of burn or slip and fall at least...). Tourists and people who are willing to spend some money do not need to go to the Hammam you described because it is too much hassle, linguistic, and cultural barriers... and there are other types of Hammams you may want to discover yourself in Morocco. Tourists need a guided visit to the Hammam, an explicit, safe, hygienic, and relaxing experience...they are here to enjoy their vacation and all what Morocco has to offer...few bucks is not a big deal compared to the experience and safety.
