You are not alone. Band-Maiko is outside of my wheelhouse too. A lot of Band-Maid fans love it but I much prefer the original hard rock versions of the songs. The addition of the traditional Japanese instruments just muck up what were some really good songs. I highly doubt that Gion-Cho will be the saving grace you are hoping for from Band-Maiko.

I mean it's an April fools joke album, I feel some of the songs tried a little too hard with traditional instruments and chanting and such. I like some, but many I feel are a bit too over the top.
