You two have one of the best sailing channels. Just keep doing what works for you and do not worry about the world of the internet. There is a special thing you have going enjoy the ride. As for the boat. The list I have for repairs continues to grow. I work and work to fix things as we enjoy our sailboat but alas, the list grows. Its a boat.

🐾🐾🐾 🐈 List... Large fuses at the batteries.. (can give details) Make sure windlass bracket and fixings strong enough.. washers? Get spare brushes for windlass.. do full strip down and rebuild of all essential items and do anti corrosion. A windlass operation light would be useful, could be a chain light.. only on when windlass running (sort of annoying, but it saved power in the days of bulbs) Any turn red key isolators can have a build-up of carbon etc which can cause resistance etc.. ie lights become dimmer but you don't notice, then when the water pump (if on the same switch) makes lights go dimmer but battery voltage ok. Do you have an alternative rudder? Check bilge pumps. Very soon... Check depth and other below waterline sensors for wear damage to threaded bit that stops it popping out .. add string/wire to stop popping. Immediately... Sort out noise from gearbox etc...

When dealing with DC electricity, the first thing you do is check the negative. Then go from there. Next thing would’ve been the switch, but your switch is good because your negative isn’t even a negative it’s just not connected.

Not sure if he has addressed anything with the windless, but usually it’s that relay fails. They’re easy to find and I’ve had to replace several of of them on different boats.

Hi Lauren and Chris. Just stumbled on your channel today. Started at the beginning and skipped through ....and ..reached the last episode. Love it. Of course newbies make mistakes. However, best way to learn is doing it. Lauren.......long fingernails, pretty, but a no go on sailing vessels. And also in an earlier episode I noticed a gigbag for a string instrument. What is in it? And last question.....why the boatname Indiana?
@SailingIndiana7 ай бұрын
Hey! Welcome to the Indiana Crew! Great to have you following our journey. Thanks so much for watching. Haha 🤣 don’t worry the fingernails have been snipped a bit, but I try and hold onto a tiny bit of glam! 🤣 so far no casualties! Well spotted, that would be Chris’s guitar. He used to play in bands 🎸 so we have an onboard musician. Great question, we named her after the infamous adventurer and explorer- Indiana Jones 🤠
@gertboerman36667 ай бұрын
@@SailingIndiana Thnx. Funny thing. I am a guitarist myself. Fingerstyle. Thus, long fingernails on my righthand. I taped them while playing volleyball and still tape them while sailing. OK....Mr and Mrs Jones...fair winds and following seas. I will be following you and would love to hear Chris play sth.

What you need is a “Barry” I met Barry when I was trying to sort out the mess a Marine engineer had left my engine in. On their advice I had ordered a brand new Beta engine. But Barry quickly identified I had been given bad advice. I didn’t need to replace the engine. But he helped me fit the new one. Barry would listen to a running diesel and identify its faults after a few minutes. He was always right. It was a lifetime of experience gained all over the world. Sadly Barry passed away last year. But every coastal town has a Barry. Look for someone probably retired but still covered in grease who has been fixing engines all his life. That’s a “Barry” offer him a beer and a spanner and all will be well.
@SailingIndiana7 ай бұрын
This is the most excellent advice!! And RIP to your Barry🙏🏼 We have been very fortunate to have the help of a (now) friend called Guy, who is incredibly knowledgeable and has helped us out of countless mishaps and engine woes! We owe him a great deal. Your comment certainly makes us think of him and we only hope that others have the fortune of a guardian angel such as Guy or Barry when they need it!
