I have always loved the sort of symbolic coincidence in this case: Their name is literally "Loving." Love transcends any race, culture, or any other bullshit you can come up with to divide the people. Love is the primary cause of marriage. So how fitting that the case that codified interracial marriage be named for "Loving?" As in, loving is bigger than hating!

I was the product of miscegenation (my mom was Native American, and my dad was Japanese). If I hadn't been born premature I would have been born after Oklahoma finally took miscegenation laws off the book. My mom so desperately wanted me to be treated fairly that she asked one of her best friends who was white to go to all of my teacher-parent conferences and such so I could pass as white more easily. She pushed me towards academic goals and I know how much she would have given to hear directly from my HS and College professors that those goals were met. These laws needlessly hurt so many people and families. And, their legacy still continues to hurt innocent people 💔.

maybe not seek permission but you still care about those closest to you (mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, grandpa, uncle, aunt, cousin) and you want them to like your partner. It always hurts someone when a barrier forms between you and your family because of your choices but many countries have made it clear now that a choice can prevail and you can just go on and do what you think is right (even if your family doesn't like it). I myself have suggested the possibility of marriage outside our circle, beyond that of our common practice which is endogamy. We have tribes in our country and people prefer to be in an intimiate relationship with the those of the same tribe. I don't mind it but I don't want my life to be planned or certain choices to be expected so marriage outside our group would be interesting to me.

I live in Norway, my dad is Tamil and my mom is Norwegian. My moms father has never met my dad, and has said he never will. He doesn’t want to meet him because he is not white and an “immigrant”, my dad is very dark skinned so I’m pretty brown too. I didn’t know this until now (I’m 16) and I’m very sad about this thing with my grandpa. He didn’t come to my mothers marriage or my baptism in church, he didn’t attended my brothers baptism either. This is making me especially sad because my aunt (my moms sister) is getting married to a white man, and my grandpa showed up to the marriage and the baptism of both of my cousins. And it’s weird because my grandpa is very nice to me even though I am not white in the skin, so I don’t understand why he still refuses to meet my dad. I also remember asking my dad why he never came with us to family dinner and he said “your grandpa doesn’t like me”, I asked him why and he said I should ask my mother. So I asked her, she got upset with him and told him to stop saying that to me and my brother. My mom always came with us when my father had family dinner, so it was confusing to me. Anyway, I am very proud of both of my cultures. So proud of having a bunad and a saree hanging next to each other in my closet.

Lady in purple clearly had some work done on her face but it's very well-done and understated. She's definitely had a face-lift and botox but it doesn't look awful (we've all seen pics of celebs who overdo their plastic surgery). Her surgery complements her existing appearance and streamlines it, instead of creating features that were never there.

I’m from LA and I’ll never forget taking a trip to London in 1991 and noticing how interracial couples were much more prevalent in the UK compared to what I ever saw in the USA. Even to this day. I rarely see interracial couples here. But in London I swear I’d see them daily. It was just one of many experiences while abroad that made me feel as if Europeans in general were more advanced than Americans.

@Beautify em : The recent shooting in Buffalo NY would seem to say the racial divide appears to be growing. With the shooter acknowledging what Fox News hosts have been saying about the Great Replacement of whites with minorities. But then there’s the viral video of the Lyft driver who declines to be the ride for a white couple in Pennsylvania when the woman gets in the car and declares “Oh you’re white, you’re normal and can speak English!”. The Lyft drivers response is perfect as he refuses to give them a lift home. Unfortunately that was an isolated incident. Whereas Fox gets televised all across the states :-( Yep we still have a long way to go. Too many people here have chosen not to use critical thinking for all decisions they make.

@BeeHereNow racism persists everywhere. But my experience was mind blowing eye opening the acceptance of blacks overseas compared to the USA. Historically too. When I married my Mexican husband, we went to my Uncle’s 60th bday party this year (2018) and my mother told me that my cousin (male) came up to her after we left and said “why did you let my cousin marry a Mexican?” White ppl aren’t the only ones being discriminatory. Idgaf how the next man or woman feels about something that don’t concern them. I sleep with my husband every night not you! Plus I was single for years and didn’t see any blk men lining up to marry me. My son actually encouraged me to not limit myself to just blk men, and I listened to him and found my best friend who is now my husband. I have no regrets. Love is love. I refused and walked away from my entire family over 20 years ago and never looked back. I had to move out of Louisiana because my father wanted me dead! Due to their ignorance, My children had to grow up without grandparents, Aunts or Cousins. But I can say this, My kids are better than they'll ever dream of being. Their filled with love, not hate, racism and sheer stupidity and with that I smile and tell myself good job everytime I look back of disowning them. ..... There's a hypocritical part of this story on my parents part. My mother is full Native American, she's actually darker than all 3 of my mixed kids, but that was okay for them I guess. according to our DNA/ The Genome Project and Dr. Spencer Wells and other scientists, we are all one race, our DNA has proven it time and time again. I am white and my wife is black. We were married June 3, 2017, she turns 61 Oct. 31 and me 60 Oct. 1. Neither of us have children. Yes, we get some looks when we go out in public, but nobody says anything. She has been welcomed with open arms at my church, a mixed congregation with a black pastor. I love her so much. I asked and prayed that God bring me a good, Christian black woman. He did!

I'm mixed race myself and my mom told me how much discrimination she had to face back in the 80s when she had my oldest sister and being married to a black man while being a white woman with a mixed raced child. This was also in Germany and mind you, my German grandparents were 16 and 13 when world war 2 ended (so very much grown up with the Nazi mindset). To say they weren't happy that she had 4 mixed raced kids, is an understatement. Growing up in Germany, it took me a long time to accept my skin color when my own family treated me like I was inferior to them.

As a black women I don't care either. The only time I have an issue is when a black male talks down on black women and say they won't date black women they're loud, ghetto, their hair, etc.

It goes both ways. I'm white and I have always found beauty in black women so I prefer them over other races. But when white women find out I've been with black women a lot of them get really offended and defensive, others wont have anything to do with me.

My friend went through this with her dad. We aren't even 40. He dad died a few years ago in his early 50s and still refused to make amends with his daughter because she married a black man. He made amends with the rest of his children who refused to help pay for his funeral and my friend's husband is the one that paid for it even though his father-in-law hated him simply because of his skin color. Her husband and I convinced her to go to the hospital she was conflicted and I said you don't want to regret not going even if nothing resolves you will still have that regret on your heart and you don't want that. I went with her to pick her father's ashes up and it was very sad because the father she had known growing up was not the loving caring man that she remembered. And I felt so horrible for her husband who his only sin was his skin and yet still had such a heart that he was not going to let some man that hated him be buried in a pauper's grave.

I have a Maori mother and a Scandinavian father but it didn’t occur to me that I could be considered mixed race until a boy in my class said that I wasn’t completely white because my skin is darker than others, I was really confused at the time because I never thought that the colour of my skin could actually mean anything

RainBowFlowerPower my kids got called “Mexican” as if it was an insult. They aren’t Mexican, rather 1/2 Japanese, but to a lot of racists they see my kids as a type, a color, and they are wrong. Don’t judge by looks, because not everyone is what little stereotypical box you’d like to stick them into. My kids wanted to know what was wrong with being Mexican. Nothing! What was wrong is you were judged by your skin, hair, eye color and not by who you are. Really it’s time to stop being stupid about skin color.
