As the snow began to melt on our Alaskan homestead, we were so excited & preparing for the much anticipated spring season. And then...there was a blizzard! Gusting winds & snow for days. Blizzards don't keep us inside though! Today we're sharing our brand new batch of meat birds that we just got that we plan to raise to pack the freezer with fresh, homegrown meat. We're also heading out to the sheep pasture to construct a quick DIY hay feeder for our ram Samson. Our sweet Lexxy turns 22 & we're celebrating her with a birthday surprise! Tina, I like your neon sign for your office (podcast). The meat bird chicks are cute when babes, but are ugly as adults. Then it's processing time! Fresh chicken is amazing. Especially when you raise, and process it yourself. We love chicken, fresh fish, beef, pork (BACON, and the tenderlion). We have friends who raise cattle, and yearly we purchase 1/2 a cow. The fish we catch ourselves. Chicken, and pork we purchase from Sprouts up in the big city (1 hour away). Our goal is one day to get chickens. We so enjoy watching your vlog. Tina, please keep my baby sister Elizabeth in your prayers. She is getting a second round of chemo and a new inmunotherapy treatment. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer a little over a year ago. Had mayor surgery and she is fighting like the warrior she is. She is my third sibling with cancer. My two brothers passed away seven years ago, now she has it. I wish they had the chicken plucker when i was a kid, because me, my sisters, and all my cousins where the chicken pluckers and chicken head hunters. Happy Birthday, Lexxy.

Our first time raising meat birds, we didn’t have a plucker & we plucked 25 chickens by hand! My fingers were so sore the next day!!😂 I said never again!

I really don't blame you on that at all, I was the one that took the chickens into the mom's in the house to be processed out and bagged into freezer bags i think, it was so long ago.
