So far we have travelled over 6598km / 4124m in our converted Ford Transit after purchasing it in Scotland as foreigners in February 2024. In this video, we are finally heading south towards Morocco and seeing that we are in the North of France (Paris), it's time for a French road trip.
We have heard that the road from Paris to Bordeaux, where we are heading, is quite boring with not much to see or to do. However, we found that to be the complete opposite. We visited a Château from the 1500s that blew our minds and stumbled upon an old ghost town whose history was quite shocking.

4:25 There's no difference between a "castle" and a "château". "Château" is merely the french word for "castle". The fortified version of it is called a "château fort", which literaly means "fort castle".

I guess using the French word in English makes it fancier and so more rich or something. I don't really know... but that is a thing in English for some reason.

In English there is, they use the French word for the renaissance castle and the wine related property.

One of the best ways to go from Paris to Bordeaux is by using the TGV. It runs at 300kph on the first part and then 320kph for the second part. It takes only 2 hours. Next time you want to make a short hop there, it's a great experience.

So enjoyed this. Loved driving through France with you both. Thanks for taking us. Can't wait for you to return to my favourite country ❤ I don't know if it's possible with your schedule (and please don't divert if it's not) but I visited Boulogne 40 years ago when I was visiting family in London and, as a very young girl, I was in awe of it and how different it was from Australia. I'd love to see it again which as you may remember from previous comments is not possible. Honestly though anywhere you go and the natural style you have sharing your experiences is just a joy to watch. Safe travels, Sam ❤

The beauty of the chateau is massive but are nothing compared to the far more emotional ruins of the French village. With all those crunchy baguettes you are both eating in the front of Big Red, I hope you managed to vacuum all the crumbs so as not to attract mice.

The Chambord castle was built for the king François 1er as a hunting residence. Its plans are full of mysteries and esoteric meanings even in the numbers and dimensions of its rooms and stairs. It was planned by the Italian painter and scientist Leonardo da Vinci (who passed away in France as a refugee and king François 1er personal guest).

As the spouse of a EU citizen, you don’t need a Schengen visa. The next time you are in any EU country, look into registering yourself as the spouse of a EU citizen. You can do it in literally any country and become a French, or a Spanish, or a Czech resident and get a residency card from there. Your spouse should also register there as a EU citizen.

it's so funny to see our cultural differences here! We always have to do our own tires, windshield and petrol. For me it was super awkward letting other people do all of that for me (especially since all of them doing that for me in SA were not white... it always feels wrong, but it's the way it works I've learned)
