I have done the route from Chur to Zermatt twice once on the Glacier Express and once the other way using local trains The Glacier express for us (my partner is disabled) was good but it was expensive and I did end up walking up and down the train a lot. The local trains were for timing and we got to hear Rumantsch actually being spoken by local people on their local train service
@nonamegamerhdnngtv29032 жыл бұрын
POV: you are the train operator and you can travel this tour every day.
@itsonlycapnkirk3 жыл бұрын
The journey is best done over 2 - 3 days to see the route properly. The Gl Xp is fine if you want to do the journey in one day and have the significant cash to do so but if you take the local trains that cover the same route you see far more and if it is still available, buy a Swiss rail pass, the journey is free.

Hi guys :) thank you I really liked the video. Low budget tip for next time: the glacier express is a "normal train". With a all swiss travel pass (a day pass you can get from 40.- if you buy in advance). Second class has the same big windows, but might be a lil more crowded. For more luxury ofc you can have the upgrade.

Yes in retrospect just sticking to 2nd might’ve been worth it😂 Still, really would’ve loved to have been able to stop along the way!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "normal train". You can use regular trains without reservation on this route, as they say in the video, but if you want to use the "Glacier Express" branded train, the not quite cheap seat reservations are mandatory.

great - but there's even a better and much cheaper option: take a bike on the same route (from St. Moritz to Zermatt) if you have strong legs... for a good trained cyclist i recommend a break (night) in Andermatt - or just take your time.. some of the most beautiful mountain-climbs are waiting (even the James Bond "Goldfinger-Mountain" Furka, next to Andermatt)... you also find cute campings in Disentis, Andermatt etc.)

You got it all wrong. The Glacier Express isn't a Swiss luxury train. Most expensive for you, isn't most luxurious in Switzerland! For us (locals/Swiss), the "luxury" label is just a marketing gimmick. Did you know the people around you? These aren't millionaires, but average locals who have an annual Swiss train pass and are enjoying a nice view (most likely their tickets were on sale and they paid 80% less than regular price). This is certainly not the luxury passengers you see in an Emirates first class cabin that departs from Zürich...

I am planning out a trip for my me and my wife. This is a VERY useful video, as we will now just utilize the regular trains. Personally, I find the seat reservation system odd. Should be like booking a flight…the ticket covers the fare and the specific seat.
@maria.3.3.33 жыл бұрын
We don't do that here usually. No one makes reservations (at least in 1st class or you'e travelling as a big group)
@maria.3.3.33 жыл бұрын
As long as you're not travelling in the rush hours, you should be able to find seats in second class for two people (and I recommend you to save the cost for first class, because the second class is usually very clean, just a bit louder sometimes. But if you want to travel with more silence, I would recommend the first class, but I warn you, SBB is very expensive, especially first class)

I am very happy that you liked the Glacier Express. I myself work at Glacier Express in sales. What I would recommend, if someone wants to travel with the Glacier Express and has a 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass, to stay in 2nd class. The Glacier Express is beautiful in both first and second class. However, the only advantage in 1st class is that there are fewer seats and it is therefore a bit quieter than in 2nd class. However, the window size and service is the same in both first and second class. But if you want to be on the safe side, that no strangers sit next to you and you are only traveling as a couple, then it is only possible to get a two-seater in 1st class.

Loved it as always. When you live in a locked up Country and havent been allowed past 5km radius from your home in forever (welcome to Melbourne Australia and have a nice day) anything looks exciting no matter the class. Thanks for sharing.👍
Looks like a gorgeous trip, but I would prefer more stretch stops and to interact with the towns. I took the Golden Pass train from Montreux to Lucern on my 21st birthday, we bought provisions ahead of time, so no expensive lunch. While your Indian meal looked good, $40US is very pricey for a vegetarian meal! Wow! Switzerland is so beautiful, and there is a combo pass that allows you to circumvent the whole country via about 7 days of travel, but not sure what window you have to do so, as I would not want to do it consecutively. My favorite part is Lugano in the warmer south - with Italian, and not German influence. Thexfood is better, too, or the French part near Geneva, though it is cooler there. Both Lausanne and Lucerne are great cities, and for big cities, Geneva and Zurich are good. There are no ugly spots in CH, but all is pricey! I envy your goal to hit 100 countries by 25. I had a similar goal for thex50nUS states. I hit 48 by age 26, butvwas 32 and 34 before getting to HI and AK. Same for every province of Canada, but still have not been to PEI or Newfoundland. Happy travels!
