We cooked with a Cambodian Master Chef in Phnom Penh.
Meet Chef Nak aka Ros Rotanak, the Defender of Cambodian Cuisine & author of award winning cookbooks. We learned so much about Cambodian cuisine and cooking techniques, visited a local market, but most of all, connected with the stories of the people.
Dishes cooked & eaten:
🍽️ Crispy Shrimp cakes with Kampot pepper and lime dipping sauce
🍽️ Ceviche beef with mixed vegetable
🍽️ Fish curry salad
🍽️ Pounded Young Tamarind + Rice Herbs
🍽️ Shaved Ice
Special guest: Vanarith from @PhnomPenhFoodTours
Chef Nak can be found at: www.chefnak.com/ and @chefnak

if you are wondering why thai and khmer culture looks so similar you should know that the thai/tai people actually migrated from southern china into the khmer empire and adopted all aspects of our culture, including our alphabet, tattoos, architecture, cuisine, fashion, religion, greetings, martial arts, dance, lakorn, plays, stories, myths etc. look up the origin of tai kradai languages. after the han chinese took over their land they fled to south east asia.

whoa, thanks for the knowledge! its very cool to hear about this, esp bc we don't often discuss these topics in today's era

@@noshivore yes it is a very touchy subject and will offend the thais but it is true. its like how the germanics invaded the roman empire and then adopted roman civilisation but the only difference is that the modern germanics and their descendants acknowledge roman influence and are proud of it. thai nationalistic history tries to erase the khmers as if we never existed

@@noshivore thank you for listening. look up tai migrations into south east asia on google images and you will see a map showcasing the history of tai migrations. the thai/tai were known as the "yueh" people by the ancient chinese and there are still thai/tai speakers called the zhuang who are china's largest ethnic minority
