As a competitive pole dancer, even I don’t like doing supermans. It does help though that most of the nerves in my legs have died at this point. If you didn’t have a collection of bruises on your legs the day after, you didn’t try hard enough. Great job though! 🤟🏼 Loved the dedication to getting the skills down Eva’s a great instructor!

Broo, my sister did pole dancing a whie, and she had lines of bruises the width of the pole goign through her shin and tighs... like, bruises upon bruises from different weeks. One day we counted like 5 colors from purple to the lightest yellow. One day, she went to the doctor for an unrelated reason with her husband, and she entered alone. The doctor was legit worried that he was hurting her, and she had to explain she does pole-dancing classes. Really funny story - Just to be clear, she wasn't doing anything outside the norm, she just bruises easily.

Yeah I went from ballet and burlesque to pole dance thinking the pain wouldn’t really bother me since I was used to torturing my feet on pointe. I was so wrong, I’m a year into pole training and I still bruise but it’s becoming a bit less painful. I had a teacher tell me that we learn new skills and they hurt, eventually it stops and then we learn harder skills and just repeat cycle forever.

Actually, it probably makes it even more painful - the pain from Superman comes from the skin being pinched so hard. It’s a trade off with big thighs: you have more skin to grip with but it also means more skin is being pinched.

The joint flexibility of a dancer is different from that of a resistance athlete. Strong people are better at putting pressure on their joints by lifting or carrying stuff, which makes their joints stiffer, by in doing so, they’re also less flexible. It makes sense that they have such a hard time with it, their vertebrae, hips, etc aren’t used to these movements. Pole dancing does require quite a bit of resistance tho, so in that sense, it may be easier for them than something like ballet.

Definitely not crying at the ripped body builder respecting the pain polers go through. Now do it on a spin pole. I wanna see the pain scale on that (also there are modifications based on body shape/size - I had a teacher that would always talk about my long slender legs because she was a shortie saying that this would be easier/harder than because of that. and if you want to train your leg lock start with skater to get your tendons used to the pain while you get to have one elbow hold some bodyweight ;)
