5:31 that jingle is from the old time ramen cart. They play that to let people know that they have arrived like the ice cream truck.

Was there in the 80s & 90s when everything was only in Japanese and then you had to point to what you wanted so the Ramen was a lottery, there was a lot of sushi, tempura and other things they had in their windows to show

Yes, thick noodles here! 😀

Hiya & thanks for all the content! They have Ichiran in the US now too. BTW, that jingle you kept hearing? That's the brass horn announcement that a pull-cart Ramen yatai is in the neighborhood... from way, way back in the day. I remember it, growing up there in the 60's. You still hear it sometimes, but it's recorded and sometimes from mini-truck vendors LOL

Love Tokyo. Two things to try. Shabu Shabu. Love saying that and it is really good. Also the huge wall clock at the Imperial Hotel is really cool. It is just across from Hibiya Park.

The jingle is played when someone orders an extra portion of noodles. It is reminiscent of the time when ramen was delivered by bikes decades ago and they would play that or a similar jingle.

We had Musishin (?) in Kyoto. The quality of the noodles were very good and their Toronto location received a Michelin star for the noodles at their restaurant. Love your storytelling 💕

I've never been to Japan. I'm from Arizona, USA. The best ramen I've ever had was in Canada and also the best sushi, I kid you not.

Oh boy, i just love that thick noodlely goodness öhöhö. Those ramen shops start to pop up here and there in Germany as well. The pork slices are something i would expect to see in Bavaria. Sadly i think i still never had a real ramen dish yet. Möh. This looks so good. 😗
@kainenforces2 ай бұрын
Are you from Bavaria? If yes visit Takumi ramen in München. Its as close as it gets to real japanese ramen. They are also in Düsseldorf i think. Itadakimasu!

Yes, prefer thicker noodles, and udon of course. That goes for Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai noodles too. I love those prices for ramen in Japan! Here I'm paying $13-17 for a good bowl.

I was hoping you’d check out ramen in Tokyo, looked tasty and the egg sublime, lol. Great price compared to San Francisco, and I’m pretty sure yours was better. Thinking it’s all the sodium that makes you feel full and a bit sweaty, but well worth it. Thanks Deana and Phil, always fun to see what’s shakin.💕👍

Here in North Central Florida cannot find any ramen restaurants. I can find a few japanese restaurants here and there but they don't serve ramen

Ichiran is ok just it’s a middle of the road choice. Sapporo’s ramen alley has better. It’s just nothing but ramen shops but they are like tiny bars with room for maybe 8 people. Worth it though.

Those prices...How? In Europe you would pay like 30 euros or something for that amount of food.
@steemlenn87972 ай бұрын
Nah. It was before Corona inflation, but I paid 12€-14€ for ramen. They do it by having a very small restaurant, a very small menu and relativly speaking very low wages.

Ichiran is pretty good, but there's a thousand other stores as good or better. My favorite in Tokyo is Nagi where the soup is niboshi style.

Spent 6 weeks in Japan last year. Going back later this year. Ate a lot of Ramen. That said, Ichiran was my least favorite. Anywhere else in the world, it would be great. I always preferred local family places. If I passed a local place with a line, I'd just get in line.
@steemlenn87972 ай бұрын
It's a chain. You get consistent quality. But average. So yeah, in Japan just go to one of the small shops where the chef looks like your granddad. In "the West" though it's more difficult.

The sluggish, tired feeling you get after eating ramen is probably from the MSG. It makes my blood pressure soar.
@ericifune55432 ай бұрын
Umm no. It's been proven not to be MSG. Probably from carbs and serotonin.
@deanzaZZRАй бұрын
And high concentration of salt. Better to not drink all the broth, especially tonkotsu (pork bone) style like Ichiran.

I like your content, but Karaage is pronounced "Ka-ra-ge", not "Kara-a-ge"... Also the ramen restaurant you went to in Hiroshima is called Imamuraya... I'm not sure why you guys choose to not mention the name. Just my opinion, but Ichiran is better of the two.
