Thanks so much! I'm a Black granny in Brooklyn, NYC with a son living in a suburb of Tokyo. (He's employed in the tech department at an annex of an American University in Japan. 1 year of teaching english after college has turned into 7.5 years of loving that country and now speaking Japanese fluently. Can you tell I'm kinda' proud?). Having grown up in this concrete urban jungle, my son has become a hiker and snow-boarder who has explored different parts of Japan, sending photos and videos thru social media of his discoveries. The culture and differing landscapes between the cities and rural areas are so interesting that I hope my next visit to see him in Japan includes renting a camper van like yours (with a bring along pee/poop bucket)! Would love to know your expenses at the end of the trip so I can properly save my duckets and plan a budget for about 3-4 weeks sometime next year. Again, thanks so much for your informative and super entertaining videos. Your talent for sharing joy and the creativity and time you put into filming and editing are truly amazing. I've been a subscriber for about 2 years now and I've even gone back to the beginning to watch all of them to date. You've allowed me to see and learn about the world thru your travels and I especially enjoyed India, Morocco and Viet Nam. I can't say thank you enough. Keep safe, stay well and best wishes to my favorite Van-lifers!

This was so funny! Loved watching you guys make your way around Japan's countryside. We live in Japan and do van life - for easy and free parking spots, you want to look for 'roadside stations', they're called michi no eki in Japanese. You're allowed to legally park there overnight, there's toilets and during the day they usually sell local produce and snacks as well. Can't wait for part 2!

I live in Japan and campervan a lot. No need to pay campsites. There's so many free parking spaces in scenic places, often with toilets which will always be very clean. As someone mentioned above you can stop/ stay at Roadside stations ( michi no eki) . So many convenient stores here you can go in and use the toilets also. If you need to stock up for things for rented van, then go to one of the hundred yen shops like Daiso or Sierra. Don't worry about not having a bathroom because there are so many onsens and public baths available for a couple of pounds. I usually go to one of those in the evening and have a nice hot bath and then pack my van up somewhere nearby with a great view to wake up to

Did they let you use the toilet at the Family Mart? I’m with Aimee. I get nervous if I don’t have access to a toilet. The less access you have, the more you need to go. That was hilarious! You’re right about the campers there, I watch one channel called RYU Camping & they show up in cars with all these “bags” that have cots, pots & pans, lanterns, sleeping bags, huge tent, wood, wood stove, gas cylinders and gas stove. It’s amazing to see the difference in equipment, it’s better quality than American gear in most respects but I noticed that so far none of these tents have floors in them, but they’re still very comfortable and cozy looking. (You guy’s would probably recognize some of the food or the packages of it)
