Fun fact: New York has a dedicated muzzleloader season, so a musket would be perfectly legal to hunt with. I live in NY so I’m not totally sure about other states, but i assume they(or some/most) also have muzzleloader seasons.

If they're gonna pretend to be Leo then they need to at least know the laws. It's legal to take any boar with any and all weapons since boars are considered a pest. You don't need a permit or license to take boars. However you are not allowed to have firearms to use in hunting near prisons for very good and logical reasons.
