When you want to buy tortillas then you need to try the fresh ones in HEB in the bakery department. A lot better than the already packaged ones on the shelf. They come in flour, wheat, corn and butter flour, 10-20 count available.

HEB's "Creamy Creations" ice cream has excellent entries: 1905 Vanilla... (I prefer Bluebell's Homemade Vanilla and Vanilla Bean - HEB has those two 'names' as well, but I prefer Bluebell's versions... but that 1905 Vanilla is my favorite. And Mexican Chocolate Fudge, which is semi-seasonal. HEB's Mint Choco Chip and Bluebell's run a dead-heat - either or both. HEB has favorite ground beef AND they have a wide range as lean vs fat varieties. AND are much less expensive that other groceries, as well as Walmart.

Just be yourselves and do what you want to do. Love your enthusiasm over all things Texas. It really gets into your blood and your whole being. As it should be. Y’all are so fun to watch. May you always be safe and healthy and happy. Again, welcome to Texas!!

I was going to school in FL and did the long drive back home to southern Cali and driving through TX took me the longest and I gained like 15-20 lbs by the time I got home. Yes I blamed TX because I didn’t hit all fast food going home. I hit all the BBQ joints I could. It was an uncomfortable time the rest of the way, but a great one. So much to see and explore on road trips. Glad to watch this couple enjoy it. 👍🏼

Re Bock - "The style now known as Bock was first brewed in the 14th century in the Hanseatic town of Einbeck in Lower Saxony. The style was later adopted in Bavaria by Munich brewers in the 17th century. Due to their Bavarian accent, citizens of Munich pronounced "Einbeck" as "ein Bock" ("a billy goat"), and thus the beer became known as "Bock". A goat often appears on bottle labels." Not a fan of Blue Bell ice cream. I've recently discovered a new favorite based on the combination of excellent taste/texture and reasonable price: Tillamook (from Washington State I believe). Concerning the BBQ place: They clearly win the prize for number of dead animals on the wall, but I am unimpressed by pre-packaged deserts and sides.

Starbuck's is probably my least favorite espresso-style coffee place. The San Francisco area has lots of independent coffee shops as well as local chains like Philz (my favorite), Blue Bottle, Peet's and so on. I think Starbuck's over-roasts their beans until they taste burnt and bitter to me. I havent' tried Dutch Bros but it certainly has a good reputation. Texas and Louisiana are major US rice-growing states. So is California and in CA you will find CA-grown rice. The best grocery chains all over the US feature local products. In the Bay Area, they are very big on local artisanal bread (sourdough and other styles), cheeses from Marin County, California wines, local berries and other produce, olives from the Central Valley and lots of other stuff. Nothing unusual about having local Texas products in Texas stores.

As a kid, I absolutely LOVED Kraft Mac-n-Cheese, but as an adult, I can't stand it. If I were you, I wouldn't waste my money on it. There are many great recipes for mac-n-cheese here on KZbin. (Just don't use disgusting Velveeta. 🤮 Use better tasting cheeses like Parmesan, cheddar, etc.) Blue Bell ice cream tastes more like homemade ice cream. I've had three different flavors of Blue Belle ice cream, and they all taste so much better than regular store bought ice cream. You should definitely try some, especially in the summer. Mikey is like a kid in the grocery store. 😄 It's pronounced /puh-KAHN/, not /PEE-can/. (A "pee can" sounds like a poor man's toilet. 😂)

15:25 *scoffs* 16:12 Bock is a strong beer that is usually dark in color. This has to do with the ingredients, usually coffee, chocolate, caramel, or nuts. American Bock usually incorporates coffee flavors and colors into its brew. Cowboys lived off of coffee back in the old west and the tradition has made its way into industry since. Originally from Germany. Texas has a large German origin population, and even parts that still speak an old and uniquely American-German.

An early congratulations on working toward obtaining a house! I am excited for you both! The day you move in will be a fulfilling day. I can't wait to see that day happen for you. It will cement the fact that America and Texas is home for you now. Glad to have you joining our American and Texan family. I lived in England for over two years while in the U.S. Air Force and loved it. My family heritage is English and French. I'm a walking "Tale of Two Cities." 😜 My family migrated to America in the late 1800's and of course I was born in America. But I loved England and I enjoy British humor and my favorite author is Charles Dicken, plus I love Noel Coward, P.G. Wodehouse ( especially the Jeeves books), Oscar Wilde ( though he was Irish) Arthur Conan Doyle, and other legendary literary figures from "across the pond." I have so many fond memories of my time in England in the early 90's. I hope you're getting the feeling of being home. I am so very happy for you both! You are a beautiful couple. God bless you!!! As far as pronouncing "Pecan" ... Pronounce it in whatever way is comfortable. There is no agreement on its pronunciation! 😂. We each pronounce it according to the part of the country in which we were born so feel free to pronounce this impossible word in whatever way is comfortable for you. 😊

Y'all are missing the whole point of HEB. First of all, you can buy just about any HEB brand item and it will be as good or better than any name brand. 2) HEB prices are cheaper overall. 3) They make killer fresh tortillas... actually anything baked is good there 4) It is Texan owned (Mr Butt's family still runs it) and Texans support Texans when there is an option. HEB is also super involved in giving back to their customers. They have meal deals (that u cook) for super cheap prices. And I personally think their fresh meat is a better quality. I moved to west Texas almost ten years ago from Austin. The closest HEB to me is 59 miles away... Guess where I drive to buy groceries? .... San Angelo. It's worth the drive. Also, everyone mentions the tortillas in the bakery... you should really check out the premade raw tortillas in the dairy area. Then you have fresh cooked always...

@14:59 I am definitely Texan before I am American. Texas culture is very different to states like California, Delaware or Minnesota. Do we have some similarities....yes. If a foreign power attacked Maine.....they have attacked all of us and all of us will respond. BUT, look what is happening right now. Texas is being "invaded" across our southern border with the help of DC, however only the "red" States are standing at our side. Exactly that is the reason Texans should keep and strengthen their culture. I´m glad that we have two new Texans who understand that philosophy.

If you go to Pearl Harbor, You will find that the battleship USS Missouri is docked close to the USS Arizona Memorial. The Missouri is also a War Memorial. The two ships mark the beginning and end of the Pacific War. The Arizona was a victim of the Pearl Harbor attack, and the Japanese signed the formal surrender documents on the deck of the Missouri.

Now that you know HEB, need to try out HEB’s upscale store Central Market. I know there’s at least one in Houston. Most of them have a cafe that’s absolutely a legit good restaurant. If I lived nearer one I’d eat there regularly.

I love our HEB Market here in The Woodlands. We used to shop at Krogers, but since moving to The Woodlands two years ago....HEB is our go-to store.

When you get a chance you should go to the National War in the Pacific Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas (about 75 miles west of Austin), Fredericksburg is a tourist town founded by German immigrants in the 1800's in the Texas Hill Country, other things to see within a few minutes drive of there is Luckenbach dance hall (live music every weekend), sort of this old ghost town that a guy bought about 50 years ago, and turned into sort of a perpetual weekend country music festival. Also in the surrounding are are Enchanted Rock, LBJ National historic park (JBJ's ranch and winter whitehouse from the 1960's), plus lots of good German food, wineries (with hop on/off tourist bus between them), lots of interesting downtown shops ranging from cowyboy hats, hot sauce, jellies, to hand made quilts)... ps. the War in the Pacific Museum is located there as Fredericksburg was Admiral Chester Nimitz's home town.

You don't eat rubbish. LOL!! When I was in high school hoping to play football at UT, I would sometimes eat rubbish. And I stayed trim (a LONG time ago). But I would only indulge once a week at most. Eating badly to treat yourself can help you stick to the good stuff better. Shiner taste better (by far) to me. But you may not like the heavier beers.

Check out Scheels Sports Mikey. They have a huge store here in the DFW area in The Colony. It is in front of Nebraska Furniture. If you and Tash are in Dallas Ft Worth be sure to come up this direction. You can spend half a day in both. There is also a pretty decent BBQ place in that same parking lot as Nebraska.

You two should look up a recipe for enchiladas. You can make them out of pretty much any protein, add cheese, refried beans, and copped onions, roll up in a tortilla, put them in a baking pan and cover them with enchilada sauce (from a can or jar) and more cheese. 20 minutes in the oven and its dinner. Texan's go- to aby night dinner.🤠

Every HEB is different. Some very average, and some very nice. You should visit Central Market, which is owned by the same company, for a completely different experience. 3815 Westheimer near the Galleria. Only down sides to it are the traffic, crowds, and, sometimes, less than friendly fellow customers. But it has just about anything you can think of.

You cannot beat Goode Company pecan pie. I've never heard of Midway BBQ and it's so close to me. I need to try it out. Summer sausage is pre-cooked, so you just open and eat it. Is good sliced on Ritz crackers with cheese. Kind of an at home snack, party food or whatever you want. I can't wait to see y'all go into the city and try some of the amazing food from all over the world. So much to explore...you'll get there. An absolute must is Galveston when it warms up! The water is brown because of silt from the Mississippi River, which is offputting to some, but it's wonderful to have a beach close to home to chill on a hot summer day and the history, architecture and monuments in Galveston are amazing!!!
