@Wastelandman70009 ай бұрын
There's more going on here than we've been told. The Alliance had to have done something really really bad for humans to respond that way. I don't buy being denied a seat being the real cause. Something else happened, something that these two characters are unaware of. I don't know what it was, but, it must have been BAD bad. Humans may be crazy as sprayed roaches, but, even we won't start an interstellar war with a more advanced set of races without something being the trigger of the Geneva Checklist.
@Zeakthecat9 ай бұрын
you'd be surprised how human nature can easily devolve to complete geneva checklist. if you have a closer look at world war 2, you'd be surprised how many war crimes were committed on both sides. canadians excuting nazi prisoners of war, the us bombarding a U-Boat waving the flag of humanitarian aid. theres more, but up till recent years its all been suppressed, and now some bits and pieces are coming out that also make the allies look like uncivilized dogs, not on the level of the nazis or the japanese, but still disgusting.

A Star Trek fan? Just look around you at the real world. Humanity is rotten at its core. Every day, whether local and in small numbers or nationally/internationally in huge numbers, humanity de-humanizes their foes over ANY reason and attacks and kills. Imagine how much easier that would be of the “others” weren’t human from the beginning? Put away your rose colored glasses. If humanity ever found a way to interact with other species across space, we would certainly be known as a predator. The real problem is that every predator should be prepared for meeting a larger predator.

This reminds me of a story I once heard. Humanity was one of the younger species to reach the stars and ended up at war with an advanced and brutal species. Said species never took any prisoners, exterminated entire colonies, etc. Humanity complained to the galactic council that these acts were against the rules of war. Turns out that only humans had rules of war. So, when humanity stopped playing by the rules the enemy species was driven to extinction by a bioweapon. New kinds of weapons were used to devastating effect. At the end, the moral of the story was this. "When you war with Humans, follow their rules." Wish I could remember the name of the story.

The implications in a lot of these stories is that 1. We get along long enough to get their tech, reverse engineer, and make it better, 2. We are a vicious race far skilled at warfare than most species, 3. Some stories have us already interstellar and a species bites off more than they can chew, and 4. (a single story) We get conquered, leadership and research goes underground, we feign subservience, reverse engineer what tech we get a hold of, and eventually start a rebellion.

One of the more interesting fertile grounds for story telling. After all, what happened here is vague at best. This is not the full story. Something's going on, on one side or the other. The words of our POV say a lot by not saying certain things. As noted by others, the fact that they mention they NEED our resources and population are telling. No mention is made of another enemy, or foe to be faced, so their desires here are likely born more of the need of all empires, to always be expanding. It is why one weeps when they meet the horizon, for they know their time is coming, and in the case of stellar empires, it is times like this that they see that end in the stars. Mind, I'm equally curious about the war itself, when did it start? Was it solely because of this single incursion? Or did they keep poking this particular dragon? A great story to get the imagination flowing, and excellently told by the AI voice you're using.

@@ALLSciFi88 There is one fellow who does a decent job and I enjoy his narration. I have to wonder if some of these people read the same way to themselves, and if it interferes with their understanding of the story. I suppose the writer could be using poor punctuation, but when we hear reverse. Engineering I don't think that's the problem. Do they pre-read the story before recording? That should help them undertand how to read it. Reading it out loud to other people before recording would help a lot as well, like an actor rehersing their roll. His voice is good but he doesn't get the punctuation correct and practice would help with that.
