Jason, I have a solid floor. Put deck oil on it to help with moisture. Didnt care for shaving, didnt care for dust shavings, but loving sand on the floor. Use a litter scoop to pick up the wet and boom Bob's your uncle,so much cleaner. Use a mix of DE and lyme on the floor too. Smells good in there and so much cleaner. Saves a tone on grit. Love me some twofers😊👍. Cant wait to see the build and the coop done for yall. I'm with lil Ms. MC are there ever enough chickens🥰. Yall have a wonderful labor day weekend. We reclaimed boat trailer skids. Free from a place that replaces them. Some boards had a bad spot that we cut out and if it was really bad we just didn’t bring them home. We then stripped the carpet. They do have staples but we just flipped them to be the underneath side. All of them treated timber. We’ve done this twice now and built an extension for storage onto my greenhouse and the chicken coop. Love it. Our coop too was on a slope and water ran thru the coop. Yucky mess! No problems now!

I LOVE having breakfast for dinner! My coop has a dirt floor, but it's on a steep hillside so when it rains hard, it washes out a lot of the poop and stuff so I've really only got to clean/scrape off the roost bars. Works pretty good, but on the next coop, I'd like a floor just to reduce the mud. - Jenny

You should put a sheet of linoleum down on the floor so it is easier to keep clean. Then spray some water on it to see if there is a low spot and maybe put a drain so you can hose it out once in a while. Looking forward to seeing what this coop is going to look like.

We are currently using a shed, that was built on our property before we bought it, as a coop and it has a plywood floor. It can be really messy to scrape and clean. I would definitely put something down under your bedding. We got to the point we are using the paper feed bags on the floor under the pine shavings. When we clean we can just roll them up and take it all to burn or compost. Eventually we want to build them a more open type of coop with a hardware cloth/mesh floor and use that shed as our goat milking/feed storage barn.

Now THAT is one big coup! With a floor that size, linoleum is a MUST if you want to clean it out. You might even want to put some drains in it in a few places so you can even hose it out if you need. Also, consider putting some kind of mesh block for the underside, keep away rats and snakes, among other varmints!

My suggestion is a rubber mat. I painted my floor with concrete Lyme for bugs followed by de and then the rubber mat then deep bed method through the winter. Then in spring roll it in 2 sections which is heavy and unroll it at the compost pile then I sweep it and start it over. This prevents bugs and rot.

I don't know about the poud liners, but I do know chicken poop is hard on linoleum. We had it in our little backyard coop (think long doghouse, opened on the side). It was great while it held up for clean up, which we did daily, but after just a couple years it was coming up and peeling. Of course that was years ago know and I know we didn't buy a new piece, so it might have been an ancient piece from the garage. Anyhoo, thought I'd throw that nugget in. New coop area is looking good!!

Chicken Coop Flooring - Linoleum on the floor if you can do it in one piece and maybe run the Linoleum (or tin) on up the walls a bit. I'm thinking that after you push the bedding out with a broom, you could take a water hose and spray it clean. I would not recommend the linoleum squares which is what we used in the small coop we built. Squares did make it easy to sweep out, but you can't be spraying it down with water. As big as your coop is, that much Linoleum may cost $$$.
@hardymarshfarm78435 жыл бұрын
our coop is solid floor, we do the deep letter and clean out a few times a year, which goes into the garden. I use shredded paper from work. all paper must be shredded into 1/8 x 1x8 ver fine shred. anyway, that's what we do, we live in the midlands of SC so don't forget the ventilation in the coop, it gets hot. looks like a good layout, can't wait to see the finished build.

Musgadines (sp) are good grapes. A friend of mine introduced them to me when we were living in NC. Funny you post this video because I have to enlarge our coop now. We have 24 layers, 29 new growing pullets and now for some reason I am gaining chickens because they just don't want them. We were given a Barred Rock and two Buff Orphingtons today, oh yeah then my Bantams have been broody for the past month, so we have two chicks that hatched today and there is a ton of eggs that are due to hatch anytime! We have gone full blown cluckin crazy here! Have a great weekend Cog Hill family!

Our coop is Inside an area of our barn. And yes we did do a solid floor too. On the ground It's pallets with Pressure treated plywood over them but I covered it with overlapping feed bags . I put lots of layers of those then a final covering of 9 mil black plastic that goes up the sides of the walls a bit. It's easy to sweep out using a plastic snow shovel. I then usually run a fan to dry the floor for a minutes before adding bedding/ wood chips and straw. I also covered the walls with those overlapping feed bags too. The walls go up to about 8 foot enclosed but go higher to ceiling with chicken wire to the top to encage the whole area. It's preditor proof. Then on the outside there's an enclosed run from top to bottom where its cemented in chicken wire 6 inches into the soil. I save all my feed bags because I use them for lots of things. Even stapled on in the inside of my barn walls to keep the wind out. So anyway, this what we've done for a permanent chicken/ duck house. I'm sure yours will be just great too. 👍😄

We have a floor in our chicken coops. It is not solid, but the joints are super tight. We like it a lot, but it does take a little bit more cleaning and scraping up of some of the poop!
