Actually the final script was ghostwritten by Tom Mankiewicz, all that's left of Puzo in the first two films are basic stuff like Luthor and Zod being the bad guys, but his script wasn't used, they just kept his name as the screenwriter cause The Godfather was still fresh in people's minds and they wanted to ride off that. Puzo's script had sex scenes in it so safe to say it would've been a departure lmao

Superman and Lois has a certain brand of live-action camp that one's mileage will certainly vary on. I can't take the show seriously (or look away from Superman's weirdly gigachad-meme-like face), but I do hear good things from the people who get into it.
@pattgsm

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree. All of the live action renditions did IMHO a better job of conveying the humanity and personality better than any animated version. Batman however, is definitely better animated. None of the live Batman movies can touch Kevin Conroy’s or Bruce Greenwood’s performances. Ben Affleck came extremely close.
@OneTrueNobody

@pattgsm Ehhhh, I feel that the Man of Steel incarnation, in particular, was too focused on making Superman as a concept "scary" and "godlike" to spend much time on his "humanity." Which is UNFORTUNATE, because when I ignore the movies themselves, Cavill is A-plus casting for Superman and has the best costume, too.
@pattgsm

@@OneTrueNobody Cavill was amazing but I can agree they went in an unexpected direction w/ the character. I loved it because it shows that he wasn’t a god. You realize that the rouge Kryptonians killed about 6 soldiers in Smallville and the World Engine had to have killed at lest 1000 ppl in Metropolis. This is the 1st Superman movie that had high stakes and consequences. I’m surprised Nolan’s Batman gets a pass when tons of ppl died and there were tons of ppl that Batman didn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t save in those films.

I think the reason why they chose to have the villains as humans instead of meta-humans is because of how the show is setting up the world. Besides the near-future setting allowing more futuristic weapons, through worldbuilding with the newspapers, we get a world where meta-humans do not exist or at least are not known to the public. This leads to superman being the first superhero and allows him to live in a world where its him figuring out what it means to be him. That's kinda why the event of him being photographed flying as a kid is seen as a "miracle" rather than just as another meta-human or something. This also makes the theme of superman being seen as a sign of hope more effective than if other superheroes already existed. It also allows him to fight stuff without being overpowered and adds mystery to the character of Superman.

Besides, it’s never too late to make Livewire, Banshee, and Parasite, Metas. Perhaps that tech will have an effect on them. Perhaps Cadmus will have that effect. Making them more like their comic counterparts in the future.
@cathygrandstaff1957
@cathygrandstaff1957 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I expect in this story metahumans will be developed as a counter to Superman existing, because there’s no way normal humans can fight him. Mutation as a result of trying to use the technology, which seems to be alien in origin, would also make sense and explain Cadmus’s focus on retrieving people who have been using it.

"Cheerful boy scout" is also a fantastic description of the OG Superman, so I'd... maybe avoid speaking for "Superman fans" on that point. If you're more of a New 52 Superman fan, then I can understand not knowing that, because around that time they rebooted him to be, ah, snarkier, a bit more aggressive in temperament, that sort of thing. Snyder obsessed with the God-complex of Superman, which was a weird choice considering that’s almost never been a core staple of the character, at least in his main form. All the God-complex stories usually came from Elseworlds and What If side stories. The problem with Snyder’s Superman is he took an Elseworlds story and made it the main canon. Superman has always been about humanity, compassion, kindness. Not what it means to be a God, but what it means to be a good person.

this show is actually my first real exposure to Superman. i've always been a Marvel fan, and never really gave DC any attention. growing up i obviously knew who he was, but I never read the comics, watched any of the movies or tv shows, or played any games featuring him. i learned the basics of his story and ridiculously OP list of powers through pop culture references, kids at school talking about him, and internet content. then a random tweet informed me of a new show that fans were calling one of the best representations of Superman... ever. With an artstyle that instantly caught my eye and an age rating that meant it wouldn't be another Invincible, i decided to give it a watch. and i'm a really big fan! whenever a new episode drops, i try to watch it immediately, and i'm really excited to see where the series goes :) also Lois is adorable

It is so refreshing to see Superman return to his wholesome roots. I got really tired of seeing Superman as this “god-like figure”, it just pushes me away from it (not religion related, it’s just boring to me). Plus it’s really nice seeing the show focus equally on the alter egos of Superman and Clark Kent, I feel like a lot of Superman stuff forgets about the Clark element of Superman. Plus the fact that Lois is a tomboy spunky reporter and Jimmy is the conspiracy-loving and joke-loving photographer just adds to the awesome chemistry the trio have. It’s just so good to see.

I hear ya. While Superman is a Godlike character power wise the only “God” I’d compare him to is mainly Jesus mainly becuse both are compassionate and actually don’t see humanity as a burden but love it and actively strive to show humans a better way which for a godlike character is very human. What’s special about Clark isn’t his alien power but rather his humanity. As Batman says “He’s the most human of us all.”

I am LOVING the show but i should also mention that Superman & Lois is also a great offering that gets at least the title character just right. Tyler Hoechlin's Clark and Liz Tulloch's Lois are the standouts, they feel exactly as they should. Despite the show borrowing a lot from Snyder visually, it actually departs quite a lot from the potrayal of the characters from the movies. In any case, i think MAWS gets the spirit and the portryal of Superman even better. It's at its core hopeful, which is what a Superman story should always be about. I loved Snyder's trilogy but it tries to look at these characters in a way that isn't really what these characters are about.

I really appreciate the way that Clark gets enough center stage to feel like the real person in the dichotomy between Superman and Clark. A lot of superheroes go through this because secret identities are a part of the job description, but the version of Superman I like the most is the one where Clark is the real person and Superman is a role he takes on. Superman isn't just aspirational to everyone else, but also to himself. He was raised as Clark Kent, and in a show like this where his origins are still unclear to him, that’s especially important.

Honestly, the second episode, “Adventures of a Normal Man Part 2”, is basically one, big “Fuck you!” to Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” For one thing, they actually give an acceptable explanation for Superman’s red trunks, originating from his Earth upbringing, unlike Zack Snyder, who said he couldn’t come up with a “logical” explanation for the red trunks. On top of that, Superman is self aware of the mess made when fighting Livewire and ACTUALLY cleans up the city! He actually cares about the damage he causes, unlike in “Man of Steel”, where he completely annihilates both Smallville and Metropolis fighting Zod and his cronies and acts like he doesn’t even care about ANY of the aftermath at the end of the movie. Talk about the complete opposite! So far, this show is the COMPLETE antithesis of the Snyderverse Superman and I’m all for it! I’m definitely looking forward to what MAwSM has in store! I think you can see by Episode 3 that the writers are intentionally shafting Jimmy so that he can get his own arc later in the season. It's clear that he feels left out because Clark and Lois are gaga over each other and he's only now catching up with that. Funnily enough, an episode released after this video came out helps support this, with Jimmy reacting in a sadder manner in regards to Lois and Clark walking each other home while Jimmy actually did his job. I think this is actually a genius decision because it's going to show Superman gaining faults to contrast the morally perfect farm boy that he tries to be. It'll show that he isn't perfect, and rekindling his relationship with Jimmy would symbolize how much he still has to learn. Though this is merely speculation, so take my analysis with a grain of salt.

The thing is dark Superman is over glazed by edgy fans. Man of Steel's universe fails but gets glazed by pretentious fans who think it's some ground breaking form of literature. Then we've got Injustice where 95% of the characters are written terribly out of character, but gets glazed for being compelling (atp, ppl have just turned distorted the definition of that word to mean edgy now).

This Superman feels like a geuine, bright-eyed, younger version of the Superman from Superman TAS. TAS Clark Kent is older, wiser, and a bit more sassy but hes still kind Thats the word you HAVE to have when you're writing Superman, Kind. If Kind isnt one of the first words you use to describe him then its not Superman Also just as a side note I kinda love his mother's character design. She looks like a genuine Midwestern farm mom. Growing up in a rural area with tons of actual farmers Mrs. Kent looks and feels so real definitely the kind of mom that would raise a guy like Clark

My Adventures With Superman is, as you put it, an injection of a hopeful world and a hero still trying to figure out all aspects of his life. His wanting to be normal and have a normal life is perfectly fine, balancing his personal needs with his Kansas upbringing to be a contributor to his community and society at large and help each other out. The angle of (almost) every villain having their powers as a result of kryptonian tech is starting to wear itself a wee bit thin but being introduced to Mister Mxyzptlk and the multiverse should begin to move Clark/Superman, Lois and Jimmy into his more traditional villains. Can't wait to see how they bring in Lex Luthor because he is as important a figure in Superman lore as anyone else currently in the series.

I have seen versions of superman in other stories and i always felt like he was a little full of himself. This still feels true to what's important to rhe character but i like this version more. Quite frankly it makes more sense. Someone who is always trying to do the right thing should feel like they are trying because people are human and make mistakes. The versions ive seen even before snyder always made me uncomfortable when they weren't willing to budge because it felt like he knew he was the authority on morality. This is someone who i genuinely believe wants to help and is willing to admit fault and correct himself. He hasn't even needed to. Ironically, the versions of different movies and cartoons ive seen have me distrusting superman and siding with lex a disturbingly large amount of the time. But i feel like this is a superman I would trust no matter what. Plus lets be real hes adorable how can you not like him?

My Adventures With Superman is terrific, an anime-style update of the Fleischer cartoons and general Superman lore. It's also to be praised for being episodic while still having character development and a larger story arc, instead of being one long padded movie like too many serialized shows are. I liked Snyder's Superman, but I can see why many found him off-putting since he's an amalgam of Iron Age Superman with his own deconstructions, particularly Miracleman. MAWS doesn't just step out of the shadow of Snyder but also the deservedly and universally loved Donner movies, which the previous cinematic adaptation Superman Returns was too much in the mold of.
