Many agree Fry Cook Games should’ve been a half hour special. It’s a great episode by itself, but imagine if we saw those events in the montage at full length.

It's pretty interesting watching "Squid on Strike" and "Jellyfish Hunter" as an adult, especially now. As a kid I didn't understand what a strike was or how brutally Mr.Krabs was exploiting SpongeBob and Squidward's labor, I alway thought that he was joking for some reason. I feel like these episodes have aged even better with the increasing number of Unions and Strikes that have occurred in the past 20 years, It's really interesting to look back on.

29:15 Here's the thing. I'm one of the people who watched Spongebob way after it got bad due to hoping it would get good again. So I feel confident in saying this. Season 4 is not bad. It's just that the general quality of episodes and characterization gets a noticeably lower average in that season. There are a few episodes that are pre-movie quality. But not that much. Season 5, the quality gets even lower, but not by much so there are a few episodes that are still perfectly serviceable but only like 1 or 2 could reach pre-movie quality in writing. Season 6 literally starts with a mediocre episode with a horrible infamous scene and things continue being incredibly mediocre going forward. The "good" episodes are just the level of decent episodes of season 5...with one exception gets to what I believe to be a good Season 4 level. (And even that episode has a horribly gross scene in there to prevent it from being perfectly fine). The thing with Spongebob that kept people watching way after is that decent and even bad episodes could have one or two scenes where things are really funny or memeable, but the actual episode itself is not at that level.
@masalanicholoff3593
@masalanicholoff3593 Жыл бұрын
I think Season 5 is also where the Squidward episodes stop being him getting his comeuppance or self-sabotaging and start with the show torturing him for no reason, which is a reason a lot of people don’t like the Post-Movie Era. I also watched a decent amount of 5 and 6 hoping things would get better, and it really feels like executive meddling with the way they overuse gross images and flanderized pretty much everyone.

I think the Texan pride thing comes from our history classes, learning that Texas colonists managed to fight off another nation’s army (with help of course) and then was its own country for about 10 years before begging the United States to please take them in. A lot of states don’t have a history that is that action packed. It’s almost like a mini American revolution, and everyone knows how patriotic we can be about the US because of that

It's hard to say when SpongeBob became "bad." The fact is that Stephen Hillenburg and several prolific writers left the series after Season 3 and the movie. Season 4 has a younger staff that tried to pick up where the old guard left off, but after a while they start doing their own thing. The part nobody can agree on is when "their own thing" became a problem.

As a child, it never clicked to me that the whole episode of Sandy, SpongeBob and the Worm was a short homage to Stephen Spielberg’s 1978 classic JAWS. Everything from someone clawing on a surface to break up the commotion in a bickering room, to the town “hiring” someone to hunt the beast, to the fake out of someone capturing what they think is the actual beast, but it really wasn’t. It’s wild.

There definetly is a quality drop after the movie because that was supposed to be the finale. The creator Steven Hillenburg and other writers left the show. I like most of the season 4 episodes, some are great, some just okay and most pretty good. The following seasons have their moments and some episodes I like but the style has changed. The humor now is mostly grotesque visiual humor, slapstick, and just your kid show basic jokes. And I even grew up with many of these episodes at least until season 6. It really isn't (only) nostalgia, but you'll probably see. You should watch it as long as you want. It will be interesting to see your opinions on the post movie episodes. I think you should decide for yourselves if you like them or not.

The reason why people say it gets bad after season 3 is because that is when Stephen Hillenburg left the show. He originally wanted the movie to be the end of the show (the movie was released after season 3) but Nickelodeon decided to continue it. Personally, I continued watching until right around season 6, and there really is a noticeable dip in quality starting in season 4. That's just my opinion though.

For the convo at the end, I have been there for pretty much all of Spongebob, and to me there is no "bad season." I feel like it's a matter of perspective based on how we grow up and watch it evolve, and also how the writing of the show changes to fit a newer generation that can also grow up with it as we have. That said, I will say that statistically most people don't care much for seasons 5 through 9, so yeah. 🤷

If I'm not mistaken the reason people are saying it gets bad at season 4 beyond is becasue the original creator and writer for the series left the show after that. After season 3 the movie happens and the creator wanted to end the series at the movie but Nickelodeon was making to much money so they just gave it to someone else and you can see the quality drop. Patrick and Squidward's characters take the biggest hits, as Patrick gets a lot meaner and there is a lot of unnecessarily tortures of Squidward. Sandy is irrelevant after that and the additions to her character is strange...I think the writers who took over was the people who did Ren and Stempy which was a much grosser more adult cartoon and Spongebob slowly gains some of those traits.

I kept watching SpongeBob well after season 4 as a kid, there’s one channel that is still reacting past that season and I’ve been shocked seeing just how many episodes I forgot about but now remember bits and pieces of after seeing the thumbnails. I remember still watching it as a kid but at a certain point started feeling like the episodes were getting really strange and genuinely made me uncomfortable to watch, but that didn’t start happening until about season 6 or so. I group season 4 in with the first three because there are some episodes on there I remember fondly that really aren’t as bad as people say, and I remember specific episodes from later seasons that I liked but they weren’t as good/memorable as the first 4 seasons. It’s all up to personal opinion though, some people absolutely hate later SpongeBob episodes while some really like them still. I think there are some really good moments in later seasons but they’re just more rare to come by than in the earlier ones.

a lot of people say that season 9 is a return to form for the series and even started giving season 1 vibes. I haven't seen it yet so I can't really make that judgement.

first episode is a great example of the “toon force”. not sure if y’all have heard of it but spongebob and patrick are pretty strong in the toon force

I grew up watching the first 7 or 8 seasons, but rewatching them as an adult I don't find it entertaining past season 3. The creator leaving definitely made a difference, there's a reason all the memes are from the first 3 lol

One thing I love about Mr. Krabs as a character is how he can naturally fill pretty much any role the show needs him to from episode to episode. Sometimes he’s a completely villainous dirtbag and sometimes he’s a nurturing voice of reason, often somewhere in between.

Season 4 is solid in my opinion y’all should watch it. Some people have a bias because after season 3 was the SpongeBob movie and the show was suppose to officially end but Nickelodeon felt that it would too big to fail and continues either way with a season 4 which is still good at least to me

I've been watching some other reactors who are currently about a fourth of a way through season 6 (which seems to commonly be the most hated season) and my opinion of it is that, overall, the show's still good; later seasons just seem to have a lot more episodes that are hit or miss compared to the amazing line-up in the first three seasons, and there's still amazing and memorable episodes even in the 'bad' seasons, at least up to around season 8 or 9; I think that's when I stopped watching when I was younger so I can't speak for any seasons past that

I think that something that would be very incredible and with honor so to speak would be for them to finish all of SpongeBob until season 3 and with the movie that came out in the same year when season 3 ended, I say this because after when it came out the first movie the series already begins with its decline in general, it is not such a strong decline but it is already going to begin because those who made the first 3 seasons and the first movie are the same people, later they are not the same, Apart from why the creator of the series said that the movie is in itself the end of the series for everyone on the team, so it would be very daring and at the same time epic for you to finish reacting to SpongeBob until season 3 and its movie 💛💙

There is no such think as an Alaskan Bull Worm in real life however the worm in the episode might be based on the real life Giant Gippsland earthworm located in Australia. It's a worm that can grow up to 3 meters long! The real issue is it isn't aquatic but otherwise it's pretty similar.

Season 4 is super solid. It gets too much hate. It’s certainly different than the first three seasons, but it’s still funny and entertaining. There are a few all time great episodes in season 4.

For anyone curious, Alaskan Bull Worms are technically real. It's a deep drown color, slick, and has centipede legs. Not a pretty sight.

I think that after you guys finish Season 3, pick and choose the best episodes to react to from the remaining seasons. Because an example is "The Two Faces of Squidward" in Season 5 which is kinda goated (the handsome squidward meme episode)

Season 4 and 5 are both great. Not as amazing as the first three seasons, but still solid and full of a lot of classics I'd hate to live without. It's Season 6 where the show REALLY goes downhill. And I say that as someone who's seen almost all of Spongebob. I'll admit though that Seasons 6 and onward do have some great episodes here and there that are worth reacting to.

11:24 if you think about it the fact of Patrick getting mad about his name being changed to Rick actually makes more sense than you think. Because in big pink loser that scene of is this the crusty crab and Patrick kept saying no this is Patrick until he got mad and blew it

I think it’d be worth it to keep going after season 3 just so you can at least judge for yourselves. I personally watched many seasons after the third one and really enjoyed it. As long as you keep watching the show I’ll keep watching your reactions.
