12:16 in all honesty, family guy handles Ida very very well. She's often played as the straight man (or, straight woman haha) while everyone around her acts like total assholes. And that's kind of the point of Family Guy, that the main characters are a bunch of assholes. That's why they get hurt so often, because it's fun to watch jerkwads get their asses handed to them. The only "harmful" part of Ida is just how fast she was able to transition, as it isn't realistic. But other than that, she's handled phenomenally
@yoda5436 Жыл бұрын
id say there's a couple things they could've done better, like mostly her reactions to the other characters making those comments, or quagmires joke at the end "damn thing can't tell the difference" as he was shown as her main supporter throughout the episode, but all in all for it's time period it's not that bad, which is shocking as most of family guy really is that bad lmao
@goldenmolelover Жыл бұрын
i think considering how fast paced family guy is all the time, the speedrun she did at medically transitioning makes a little more sense. but yeah, as a trans person i love her so dearly.

The Ida episode somehow does trans issues both terribly and great at the same time, I think it makes sense that most of the characters that are obviously shitty and ignorant people (like Peter and Lois) don't take the thing seriously and are very antagonistic, and the way Ida herself is presented and what she says about her choices rings true for a lot of people's experiences, and Quagmire coming to accept that change because of his love for his dad is a pretty positive spin (of course they gotta ruin it by making Quagmire Quagmire) The way Brian is thrown in the equation feels consistent with his character in the series, he's a pretentious liberal that is only progressive as far as talking goes, and of course he handles the realization of sleeping with a trans woman terribly and then gets his shit kicked by Quagmire, it all checks out.

I know the Quagmire dad episode gets discredit nowadays. But I'd argue the episode ages well. It handles both tolerance of trans people and misinterpretation from some cis people. And I can kinds understand Brian's reaction, bit strong but I can understand it. Imagine how you would feel if you unknowingly slept with someone of the sex you aren't attracted to. You might have enjoyed it in the moment but there might be confusion in the aftermath.
