I'm not a big Apple fan, but I'm a developer/I require an Apple device, after I run all my code on emulators, I will also say all of my other laptops and desktops have a 128GBs of RAM,so Apple is definitely lagging behind and I notice it A LOT, when I'm having to work on their laptops, thier desktops aren't as bad/aren't really bad at all, for working with Apple projects. The reason I NEED 128GBs of RAM/WAY MORE than 16GBs of RAM,is VMs/Virtual Machines/I like to run multiple OSs/all my machines have Manjaro Linux and usually Windows,but ALWAYS Linux,also I like to test my code in VMs, 16GBs of RAM, just doesn't cut it, also Apples chips are honestly not the best, UNLESS were talking about battery life, even with more cores, its not as powerful, as an I9,because it uses fire cores and frost cores/the same ARM type technology that Android uses, with their little and big cores, meaning some of thier cores are more powerful than others,which like I said, this is great for battery life, but when you need more power,its just not there. Anyway this is a step in the right direction/having more RAM is going to make a HUGE difference while having to use these machines,now if thier laptops only had a num pad LOL,I feel like a peasant typing numbers, with out a numpad LOL.

@K Vignesh It was mentioned in the video, that no one would care about the additional RAM and I was just saying that it will make a lot of a difference, I still wouldn't want to use it as my main laptop,but when I need an Apple laptop, for development, it will definitely help.

It’s pretty clear that the Air M2 isn’t there to be the new star product like the Air M1 was. It’s there to close a big gap between the Air and the base 14” M1Pro. The more you upgrade to give yourself a decent machine, the more it makes sense to just spend a bit extra and get a Pro.

And after i tought about it for a while, only reason why they did not allow multiwindow in my opinion, for other then M cpus is that when you switch to different group of open apps maybe some of them would require a bit longer load time, (few seconds top), or require reload (because of RAM) and god knows what else. My point is regular user of non M ipads would use it just fine (totally ok with maybe few second wait) but apple does not allow it because it is not 100% perfect.... such a stupid decision.

The M2 is mostly a justification for a permanent price hike for the base model Macbook. In Europe, it jumped from €1199 to a whopping €1499, and once the M1 macs get discontinued it won't come down. I was excited for the new Airs as I was thinking of perhaps replacing my ancient 2013 13" Retina with one, but that enthusiasm has deflated.

Then get the M1 MacBook Air. The 2018 MacBook Air was also $1199 initially and the MacBook Air 2017 was kept around at $999 for a short time. It eventually came down to $999. Same will happen to the new MacBook Air as it's a redesign and will eventually come down in price.

With the accelerated inflation going on, I have a nagging feeling that the new base price point for the M2 Airs is where they want the Mac to start going forward. The M1 Air is definitely the more attractive product right now, it's just a shame that it doesn't have MagSafe.

For someone who values portability, the 14" is a no go for me( cuz that's a thick boi), but I also don't wanna stick with the old form factor of the 13" Pro (with touch bar...) This New Air M2 is everything I wanted the 14" to be in therms of shape. It took me years to get around not having ports, but now, I already have a dongle for everything that I need. I just need it to fit in my bag.

I've got to give them credit Apple hardware has been coming around in a very good way as of late.

this bummed me out a bit because it shows how meh it was. i like the lock screen thing but its minor. Still no split screen on iPhone. I want 2 apps on at the same time and that dang dock is still at the bottom. There still isn't a dedicated calculator for the iPad and that's just pathetic in mid 2022. I wish they did more but yea It does seem like they are mailing it in. I do think that was a sneak into what apple will have for there car however the car dashes they showed I believe are the BMW Xi and the EQS and new S class vehicles. I want more and I hope they can do some stuff over the next 11 months to give us more.

I tried Stage Manager on the iPad. You can hold the icon in the control centre and choose to hide the left roll or the dock or both. I hide the left roll and it’s so great to use.

MacBook Air is entry level and to say that 8gb of Ram isn’t enough! You guys sometimes have a hard time coming down to the average consumer. College kids and everyday people are buying MacBook Air for light work and internet machines. Who doesn’t pay for iCloud storage and needs more than 256gb of local storage. I get it that it’s not a good value specd out but it is the BEST SELLING LAPTOP…. 70 percent of those were base model 8 core 7 core GPU… Best Buy and amazon ran them for 849-899 every month seemingly.

I don't own a MacBook so I could be wrong but I have seen videos when they explained that the 8 gb of ram was filling up and using the ssd for additional ram space pretty frequently, which would unfortunately shorten the life of your MacBook, but even with that situation it could take a very long time before there were any issues. That all being said I would agree with their assessment that16 gb of ram is better value because if it really is filling up that often then 8 is clearly not enough even if you don't notice it day to day as a user. Just my 2 cents.

For me the wallet changes like direct vendor payments, and pay later were the most welcome for me. Integration of an After Pay or Klarna style feature with my wallet sounds good. Particularly for how my wife and I manage payments on certain things. My wife is also looking forward to the medication manager for her watch with all the drug interaction stuff. Wasn't a revolutionary conference, but there were features we liked.

I do audio editing (mixing is a little heavy for it, but that's fine because my desktop is connected to my mix console anyways) and programming on my 2017 macbook pro with 8 gigs of RAM and have no issues. I think 8 gigs of RAM is just fine for anyone considering the air. If you're gonna need more than that, just bump up to the pro because you're probably doing heavier work that would benefit from the fan. A windows machine? 8 gigs will chug, windows itself needs like 5 just to run the os well. But MacOS seems reasonably optimized to make normal workloads fine on 8 gigs

iPadOS 16, lets you hide the dock and the grouped apps (like how you would hide the dock on the mac), so that you get the full screen real estate, the options are in control center. Still kinda weird tho

Keep in mind even the M1 iPads with 8-16 Gb RAM can only have 8 windowed apps in stage manager open at one time. Good luck trying to run that feature with the A series chips. Even the A12z only had 6 Gb of RAM. Also keep in mind iPadOS has much more advanced memory siloing compared to macOS/Windows/Linux due to its security architecture. So Stage manager implemented on iPadOS will be very memory intensive and it makes sense why they didn’t try to expand it beyond M1 iPads

I'm rocking a base model M1 Air as my travel setup, that laptop is superb. I have a PC with a Ryzen 5, RTX 2060, 32GB of RAM and I am still often impressed when I use my completely base spec M1 Air. It runs through day to day tasks with ease, and edits 2K footage easily. I just connect an external SSD to edit off, which is a great workflow because I can use the same one for my PC and have that flexibility. The M2 doesn't look like a big enough leap to justify upgrading just yet, especially considering I got mine for $800 (Apple was regularly putting the M1 Air on sale shortly after launch). I think they know they struck the right cord with the M1 Air, and just want to get a new one out before College students begin shopping for their new laptops.

With Continuity camera, dont forget they said it is completely free, which is cool BUT dont forget that magsafe adepter will cost at least 50USD. Software features were fine but nothing special. Only worth mentioning that ipad connected to display is now extending display instead of mirroring and stretched to full. We have M1 ipad pro, ipad mini, mac mini, iphone 12 at home and i am 100% sure that we are using 50% of its features at top so everything they shown yesterday will be forgotten and i will use my devices same as I used before. Every iOS, macOS or ipadOS, I use maybe one max two of the features added occassionaly and thats it. Craig got me excited with "Gaming". Expected to start talking about their console but nothing. Apple ARM APUs are really powerfull and efficient, they should use it.

So what we have here is those players just stroking a cheque to Apple and offloading all of that design and research work to them.

I genuinely wouldn't want a car dash board that's a single display. Because if the display fails, suddenly you can't use the car. These things should not be integrated into a single display. There should either be separate tiny displays for each things... Or no displays at all for the gauges and what not. Unless we're talking about a 100% autonomous car that doesn't have a steering wheel.
