We went looking for this dumpster the other night with no luck. I did however find a dumpster full of STILL FROZEN food this morning!! I filled my 2 freezers, my grandsons freezers and 3 of my neighbors freezers with all of it!!!

I worked at a shelter in Vermont and as long as the bags are sealed, dry and in date we accepted all we could. I find it crazy they turned it down. Also check in with meals on wheels or senior apartments that allow pets. We would donate extra to meals on wheels and they would distribute the pet food to seniors they knew had pets. The food bank that I take my friend to, they give out 4lb bags of pet food if you have a pet. They are always looking for pet food donations. She is 67, widow, no children and doesn't drive. She is on social security and that doesn't pay everything she needs to as it is, nevermind trying to afford food for the month. So the food bank food she gets helps alot. When we come across a lot of good food at the dumpsters, we give her some too. Every bit helps to get by.

Yes, a blessing box just for pets. People that are strugglingntonfeed themselves and if they have pets... that's how some pets end up surrendered to shelters. If they had a place to go for pet food, that would help them keep their pets home with them.

We care for 25 community cats after our 8 indoor pets. This would be an amazing find for keeping community in food. Alas we live in Florida not Texas. We've got to find one of these. The number of rescues and even our neighbors who participate in feeding dumped animals would be unbelievable.

I have lived in the US since the 90s. One of the things that struck me is how easily people throw away food, like bread. For us, it is a sin. There are no hungry people in my homeland, but we respect bread and any other food. We remember the Second World War, when during the fascist blockade of Leningrad they gave out only 125 grams of bread per person. We survived and did not surrender the city to the enemy, but my people paid with millions of lives. And we know the price of bread. Here, food is thrown away by the ton, in your culture, throwing food, sitting on cake, etc. is normal. For us, it is savagery. And I am very grateful to you, guys, for saving food and being able to share it. Even in the US, the richest country, there are millions of homeless and starving people, despite the abundance of food. In my opinion, this is very shameful.

We went to ALDI dumpsters recently and the amount of food/meat still in great condition, just tossed. We took it all. We know a soup kitchen that feeds the homeless, that gladly takes unopened packages. Hundreds of pounds of salmon, hot dogs, breakfast sausage tubes, ground beef, pork ribs, lamb steaks, beef steaks, boneless chicken breasts, 10lb bags of chicken legs, several 10lb bags of potatoes, onions, organic bananas, peppers, celery, apples, oranges, loaves of wheat bread, bagels, brioche breads... then we hit the pet store dumpsters and get bags and bags of pet food, timothy hay, unopened cases of canned cat food and canned dog food. None of it on recall lists. We donate it to rescue groups. We are saving it all from landfills. We even take the bags of lettuce and veggies that are turning and we give it to our worm bins and they turn it into compost. We have chickens, and they love cantelopes, green peppers, hot peppers (chickens can't feel the heat), broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage. I call other dumpster divers that I know to let them know when we come across dumpsters so filled we can't possibly take it all, so it doesn't go to waste.
