The Garni temple is believed to have been completed in 77 AD. The date is primarily linked to the Armenian King Tiridates I's visit to Rome in 66 AD, where he was crowned by Roman emperor Nero. (Kingdom of Armenia was a vassal of Rome at this point in time). To rebuild the city of Artaxata, previously destroyed by the Roman general Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo, Nero gave Tiridates 50 million drachmas and provided him with Roman craftsmen. Upon his return to Armenia Tiridates began a major project of reconstruction, which included rebuilding the fortified city of Garni. It is during this period that the temple is thought to have been built. So the Garni temple is essentially thought to be a gift from Nero to the King of Armenia.

@@azatakopyan4266 It is a historical fact, if you are sitting on some hidden superinformation and have some other claim feel free to share with everyone else. The Garni temple was destroyed in the 1670s after a huge earthquake and remained in ruins until 1969-1975 when it was finally rebuilt. If I remember correctly about 80-85% of the rebuild materials are from the original stones and materials.

A great vlog guys. Your choices to visit were spot on. All three spots from the temple looking out beyond the mountains, to the monastery /old church Garni and Geghard and Dargett brewery. Using a local guide as we did was the wise way to go guys. Thanks for the memories Molly and Matt. Sending you lots of love💕💕 Harriet and Jim. Richmond, Va.
