As Storm Gerrit rolled through, what did we do? We went for a walk of course! :) And it was a good opportunity to document what it was like out there, down by the North Sea. Just as well we did, as there wasn't anyone else taking in the fresh sea air! Join Alicja and Steve in Montrose...

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You may not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)
I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation and KEEP THE CAMERA ROLLING :)

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
WHY THE ADS?
It's my income, I can't do this for free.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for KZbin Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

The Scottish version of ''Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun."' Thanks Steve and Alicja for really terrific video. As a black and white still photographer it was very inspiring. I have watched it several times now and had to put a coat on although it has been in the high 80 degrees here in Sydney. Cheers PS Love the two of swimming at the same spot.

Storm Gerrit is named after Gerrit Hiemstra, a Dutch meteorologist who worked for the Dutch Public Broadcastingservice. Earlier this year he left after 24 years of service. They named the storm in his honour.

Wow! Thanks so much for this. The sea spray and churning waves were epic. Here in the Colorado Rockies it is a cold, sunny day. We might get up to freezing (32F) today. The peaks are snow covered and we still have some patchy snow on the ground. It's beautiful, but doesn't get more land locked than this. So it is wonderful to have a dose of the North Sea when she's riled up.

Just as wild up here in Orkney today, we had winds gusting up to 74mph, Some may call me insane but I was out this morning at 10 o'clock to get some shots of the NorthLink ferry Hamnavoe coming in through the Hoy sound (a particularly fierce stretch of water) with that headwind from the shore, needless to say she was pitching an' rolling just a peedie bit, what a way to welcome back the crew from their Christmas holidays! Oh and as for Golf scores today, well... let's just say triple digits😅

It's been a bit saucy around here in North Yorkshire. Yesterday we had an insane if rather brief hail storm that was threatening to put the windows in. You need a hard hat on standing where the waves come over, I was a relief signalman at Dumbarton and sometimes covered Craigendoran box and when there was a storm all sorts would be brought over the sea wall, like tree trunks, rocks and sometimes even fish, so it's not just the water coming over.

@@auldfouter8661 Storms have always killed people, that is just a fact of life unfortunately. But names are now given to storms so that they will seem even more scary to people. It is all about pushing the climate change agenda. Which is basically a huge hoax to terrify people into a more and more controlled state. No doubt you will think that i am just an idiot conspiracy theorist spouting nonsense, and I would have said the same before I woke up to what is happening in the world about three years ago. Millions have woken up in the last few years and many millions more will in the near future because what is being done is becoming ever more obvious.

It was pretty wet and windy down here on the South coast of England, but not quite that bad! Thanks to you both for getting out and sharing a stormy Montrose with us 🤟

Over here in The Netherlands, weather is quite similar, but a wee bit tamer. As mentioned elsewhere, storm Gerrit is named after a Dutch weather man, who is especially praised for explaining climate change in an accessible way. I noticed lately that I'm inclined to use the word wee as an adjective ever since becoming a regular viewer of your videos. 😉

Thank you for braving the elements! As George Costanza said..." The sea was angry that day, my friends". 😎

Hi Steve and Alicia, i have only just watched your short video on storm Gerrit. Very enjoyable but only sitting on my cosy sofa out of the wind. You two are amazing going out filming in that weather and having a good laugh too. ATB

I was born in Glasgow, raised in London, and now live in Northern California. The weather here is very mild, we’ve had some rain today, but nothing like that! WOW! lol. Keep the great videos coming, Steve! They’ve been a good source of entertainment for me, going through a life transition. And not a good one!

Steve--we found your channel a few weeks ago and are totally hooked! We visited Scotland and Ireland about a year ago and there are SO many wonderful things we didn't get to explore and you are doing it for us! You and Alicja keep up the good work. The videos are fascinating and fun. :)
