I have a Series I VY S Ute that I bought in mid 2014 in the same Delft Blue 702H you guys have for $1800. I was bet by a couple of guys that I could not restore it for around $10K. I went $100 over the $10K but still won the bet after when they saw the results. The mechanicals on mine were spot on & all that was needed was a good service. Considering that the Series I looks like a tarted up base, I went for the Series II look. I updated the seats to leather/fabric, did the headliner in black, bought black inside 1/4 plastic, black sun visors, A friend bought me a Calais cluster & reprogrammed it for me, leather shifter, gaiter, handbrake, leather door inserts, aftermarket Saas volt & oil pressure gauges & bought Calais A pillars to complete the inside. Outside (before painting) I bought SS headlights, SS front bar, SS side skirts, SS bumperettes, VZ SS 6.0L front guards with the side repeaters, tub liner, Holden OEM Twin hump hardlid & SS rear centre cap with 3rd brake light. The only thing I didn't do was the body prep & closed door respray. Even today she still looks as though she just came off the showroom floor & is my daily driver. The only 2nd hand parts I bought were the Hardlid & the VE SS Series I 18" wheels. The rest Holden had in stock at the time back in 2014/2015. 2022 would be hard trying to find new old stock parts but for under $10K you'll have a fine machine using salvaged parts/trim. I noticed that your Series II has the SS front bar without fog lights. Underneath the bumper on either side you should find 2 connections that go no where which will be the foglight connections. All you need is a relay, the foglight/headlight switch & the foglights themselves & it's just plug & play. I used OEM VZ SS foglights which are 20% more brighter than the VU/VY ones but you'll need to use the VU/VY bracket to mount them. Please, just restore your Series II VY ute on a tight budget to show viewers that a good classic ute can be built. If you put in an L67 engine, I can understand but many watching are on a tight budget. Going full out & replacing the engine with an LS1 has been done many times before but nothing done on the L36/L67 V6's. Once finished, I guarantee you'll be happy with it & even sell it on restored for good money. Otherwise keep it as a restored daily like I did with mine. If you need help in chasing parts/trim, let me know & I can help you keep it under budget.
@TorqHub2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you did a great job mate. Hindsight is 20:20, if we all knew then what we know now, we would have raided our loval coverntry's and dealerships and stockpiled GMH genuine parts while they were reasonably priced 🤣 Between Holden closing and covid tax, even basic bits carry hefty cost. Still haven't decided what to do on this yet, alot of great options for those with deep pockets. But, any money spent on this ute takes away precious funds from our 2 major ongoing projects, so we'll have to be thrifty! First thing's first. Diagnose the current issue, and get it re-registered.
@1969Risky2 жыл бұрын
@@TorqHub By all means concentrate on the major projects as they're great but make this one a good cheap resto that you'll still be proud of & that those on limited budgets can easily do themselves. I also commented on your Insta page so you can see my ute as well as 2 other utes I've helped work on. I still have more pics to load up on it as I haven't had time to catch up but it'll give you an idea on what yours can look like from the outside. I know you'll guys will have to buy & scrounge parts/trim & even putting in VE leather seats isn't costly & easy to modify as I've done a few for mates. If you need help in tracking down stuff, give me a shout. If I can't find it, I know those who can. I can't wait to see what you guys do to this neglected ute.

There is plenty of money and interest these days for older Holdens in original condition. Sure you can turbo it, V8 it or even Vortech supercharge it (my preference if the current donk is upto it), ....or you can clean it up to close to as possible for its first year on the road. There are plenty of clapped out 20 year old Commodores out there. Finding an original one is a bit more difficult. They are only original once. I bought a 95 VS Executive 5.0 manual 2 years ago. I've spent time and $ bringing it back mechanically to as roadworthy as it was in 95. Could have bombed it out, but I'm glad it's all original. My 81 year old Dad in Brissy has a VX Berlina, still original. Dudes last after it for that reason. You guys do a great job modding cars. What about restoration just for something different?
@TorqHub2 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate the sentiment in your comment, but we're not spending $20k restoring a VY V6 ute 🤣 A factory restoration is only worth it for something limited build IMO. The VH SL/E will have a 'factory improved' nut and bolt resto.

@@TorqHub sure, I didn't mean a full rotisserie nut and bolt job. More along the lines of service the drive train, new shocks, bushes, brakes and tyres, clean out the interior, knock the dents out and give her a polish. Could be done for @$3k or so.
