If Dani would have testified, Derek would’ve got life. Now he is writing that in the paper, and if Sweeney takes that to the authorities, technically they cannot get Derek on the same crime and give him life because of the rule of double Jeopardy. You can’t be convicted on the same crime twice, regardless of new evidence, because he served his time. Even though new evidence came out, you can’t have another trial on the same crime according to the law. Someone correct me if I am mistaken.
@geoffmustbedestroyedКүн бұрын
But, Dani deleted the sentence….he typed it out then deleted it….so, even if Sweeney had the chance to read the paper, that admission had been removed and he wouldn’t have known….. Though, the double jeopardy….yeah, you’re right….Derek wouldn’t have had to serve life….or any further time at all

Yeah before Columbine, violence and even gun violence was common in high school back in the ‘90’s. Today it might not seem like much but the littlest things would escalate to life altering in an instant. Step on somebody’s sneakers, cost you your life, look too long in somebody’s direction, expect the incident, trying to be assertive amongst to one or a group of teens and they’d shoot you just to see what happens. It was senseless and we were too stupid to see how pride mixed with all that bravado was us carving a way down the wrong path. Grimy ‘90’s. Crazy times.

Check this y’all. Hazel Park, Michigan. Nick named “ hazel Tucky”. As in Red Neck county. A city on the border of Detroit. Close friend of mine was Alabama raised and moved to Hazel Park. Fit in as you would imagine. I moved to So. Cal. In 98’ and finally went back to visit 14’. The whole area had changed. Almost 30% of the population was black. As opposed to less than 1% when I left. Blew my mind. So went and saw my old friend, and knew he was a bit of a racist. Asked how he was with the change as we talked on his porch. And at that moment his neighbors came home and he popped from his chair and ran over as best friends. Called me over to introduce me. Older black cpl. With a cpl. Of teenage sons. Found out they drink and played cards every Sat. Night. ❤. Blown away by my friends change. People can change. He was ignorant by his upbringing. But just those neighbors changed his whole perspective about different races and cultures. As a believer in Christ, this really touched me. Because if you knew my friend, you would now believe in miracles.

That took place in CA, so none of it would have been self-defense. Now, you can't even shoot a home intruder who is already inside your house unless he is a threat to you. Meaning, in some jurisdictions, you will get charged if you shoot someone who broke into your house but isn't actively attacking you. They aren't considered a threat if just walking around inside your house until that point.

One of the takeaways I got was the older brother reflected in the younger one. The older was oblivious to how hid attitudes, and actions effect other people than just himself, and it was his actions that led the younger brother's path to hid death.

Very classic flick and enjoyed the reaction 💯 Notice the color schemes throughout the film. During the scenes when we see him post prison, it’s in color whereas when we see him in his low state of mind it’s black and white (highlighting his limited view of thinking and living). What I love about this film is that it gives us room to dig deep into the psychology of this kind of stuff to truly understand that the is taught. With that, if one wants to change they can. Very great message.

The people he was with probably told him he had to shoot someone. And he chose the brother cause he knew he was with that racist group and the smoke getting blown in his face. But you can tell after he did it, he instantly regretted it. The ending is powerful cause it's saying hate and racism isn't just white, it can be any color.

The same societal pressures that Derek's younger brother was going through were pretty much the exact same as the kid that shot him at the end. Both kids were only following in the footsteps of the older ppl around them, both caught up in a life that was spoon fed to them. The only difference is that the black kid didn't have a Derek around to tell him what he was doing was wrong. I believe that the only reason the black kid shot the younger brother was because of peer pressure and nothing more.

He use to wear combat boots and the usual stuff. Skinheads actually originated from UK and were very anti-racist. It also became a culture in the USA but racists took over the skinhead as most people know it now. There are original skinheads still around, like the guy that was cut in Portland, Oregon. He is a skinhead and during a fight against a racist in a tram, he was cut in the throat and almost died.
