Really drives home the point of how important wadding, baffles, and shock cord sleeves are for the survival of the recovery system.

Ton of fire from the ejection charge! Surprised my rockets live for a second launch. Thanks for the heads up on shock cord sleeves

Didn't see anything like that when I started out with model rocketry . My first rocket was the Estes Big Bertha using B6-4 motor. I was 14 years old...that was 52 years ago . I no longer have that rocket and the dozen others I once had, but I recently built another Bertha mostly to go with other models I built due to covid lockdown and to bring back a bit of old memories. Along with those Rokr wooden puzzles, scale wooden navel ships and I recently built Estes Mercury Redstone Liberty Bell and the next will be a Gemini Titan kit. I was planning on making these rockets launch ready but didn't really plan on launching until I saw your plans for a controller. This bringing the kid back in this old man.

I’m surprised how many things were happening in that small few seconds when it ignited

That ejection charge makes a strong case for kevlar. No wonder i lost so many chutes and birds back in the '70s. I'd to see a side-by-side of 2 boosters, same burn time, bu in different classes.

Its a blackpowder charge, wadding is a must you're correct!

Awesome! Tho how would my wadding even survive the flame 🔥
@themodelrocket2204 жыл бұрын
Crazy right?? That's why you need your wadding to be self-extinguishing instead of just any piece of paper. The slo-mo video really puts it into perspective.

Testing with these rocket motors I’ve found humidity has a huge factor on the amount of sparks as pieces of burning debris that fly out

I did launch for the first time today without wadding. now I see why the parachute got cooked. Later I stuffed the wadding too tight and buried itself in somebody's lawn. I had a great time.

Right?? I know, we were blown away slowing it down. The ejection charge was the highlight for us. Use wadding!!

I remember doing a static test of an A10-3T buried in sand as a kid, the ejection charge made a loud bang and left a crater.
