Hi Sarah, we’ve raised our 10 children on acreage too. Our property is fairly wooded and we don’t have any large areas of water just a small seasonal creek so it is a bit different than yours. Two things I think you and Solo should think about. When the kids were going to be outta calling distance they had to take a sport whistle with them. Lots of times I just wanted the assurance everything was ok when I hadn’t heard anything in a bit. If I blew the whistle a couple short tweets and they responded right back I figured everything was fine and they were fairly near. Plus if some did get seriously hurt continuously blowing a whistle would alert me and save time while a sibling was running home. But probably the best thing is we always had a good dog that stayed with the kids. Not sure if size necessarily really matters so Nessa might fill the need but the family dog was outside with the kids. The dog will pick up a snake in the area before your kids will, they will chase off stray dogs, they will notice something out of the ordinary....ours chased a bear off that was at the chicken coop and our daughter was on her way up to the coop, they will alert the kids if a stranger is on your property the list is endless. Raising our kids in the country gave them a wonderful childhood with all kinds of adventures but it also comes with some risks and a good dog is worth their weight in gold. I would probably do some internet search on dogs that naturally watch children near water. Our son has a dog that’s half lab and half giant schnauzer. The giant schnauzer is a protection dog so he wants to stay close to his people and the lab lives the water. That dog watches his kids when they are at the lake and when they get too far out he pulls them by the shirt closer to shore. If a child fell off a dock that dog would enter the water and has the strength to let a child hang on. I know your kids can swim but that safety net for them or a visiting child is wonderful because the stories my older kids tell now about things they did that were off limits makes me want to get the spoon out😉Sorry so long but I really felt it was something you and Solo should think about🙂

Animal instincts and nature are amazing. I got chickens this year and they “put themselves to bed” every night. They march right up into their coop all on their own. At first there might have been a straggler or two, but it was amazing to see the others go back down to get their chicken sister. Kind of like “this way!!! Up here…. Follow me!!!!”

Watching them come back in the evening..they will wander a path and look for shelter along the way. The ducks will feel very vulnerable in wide open spaces and probably take the path that follows places they can take shelter. They need a little ramp into to coop.

Everything about this video was wonderful. Happy Birthday Destiny🌺🌺🌺. Man my heart melted into marshmallow seeing the joy and happiness on Destiny's face when you guys sang happy birthday to her xxx. My adult son had/has a flock of ducks that he would feed once a day, because we now live in town with a typical size yard it is way too messy to have them here permanently, as you would know they shyte all over the show, we now lead them back to their pond with some pellet things he got from the pet store. They pick up so quickly what to do/go, I was surprised. I am not sure if it is the same ducks but we have a flock visit once or twice a year since moving them out. Our neighbours don't. I could pick who was who with a few of them. Some still look familiar. Mum quacking like a duck made me have a really big and loud laugh! Thanks for another cool video.

I think, on the first walk, there was way too much commotion for the ducks. On the 2nd day, it was smart to go with just you and a couple of kids. I noticed they were very calm when it was just your mom and Aunt talking to them. They are in a family with many. They'll get used to it. On new adventures with them, keep it as calm as possible the 1st few times. Once they know the task and what's expected, it won't matter who's around. One idea, get a cheap plastic kiddie pool at their coop. It fits more of them and gives them a bigger place to rinse off. They're like 15-18 at Walmart.
