Our first full day on the Big Island of Hawaii was a doozy. Starting out in Kona, we drove down to the southernmost town and point in the entire USA. There, we off-roaded a bit north of Ka Lae to a green sand beach called Papakōlea Beach using our jeep. We didn't know it at the time, but we weren't technically allowed to do what we did. Cars aren't supposed to traverse the land down there along the beach, nor are residents allowed to profit off tourists for those purposes...but thus we did it and people continue to do drive the really cool dirt roads to the one-of-a-kind beach. From there, we drove up a little to Punaluʻu Beach, my first black sand beach I've seen! Still wasn't done there, we continued north to Volcanoes National Park where we all saw lava for the first time glowing in the night sky...finally ending our day up in Hilo for dinner. Hope y'all enjoy!
