The problem is that our parents think that, by virtue of them being our parents they DESERVE respect. They usually get aggressive and shout when they know that they are wrong. It’s usually a tactic to shut us up and push us into submission. That behaviour is motivated by shame ya hore “my child is highlighting something that as an adult I should have known”. Forgetting hore they are not perfect. My mother would even cry and accuse us of disrespecting her and ungrateful of everything that she has done for us. Imagine! As a mother to adult children myself (raised in a Western society), I have had to unlearn a lot to have healthy relationships with all of them. Our parents did the best that they could but in some areas they failed. And it’s okay because they wouldn’t have known everything. However, when we highlight their blindspots, they need to listen and stop being defensive.

It is a cycle that never stops and it hurts the next generations. A cycle that can be traced back to the previous generations. The Bala children must first acknowledge that their mother is emotionally immature. Get therapy for themselves to gain tools so that they have boundaries and develop healthy ways of dealing with their mother. Based on her age, she may never change. They will be taught ways of how to love her where she is, and how to guard their hearts. It takes being born to an emotionally immature parent to comprehend such relationship dynamics. I think one of the major things here is financial independence.
