The only way to fix home affairs is to fire every last employee and replace them with non-corrupt, dedicated and loyal employees. Home affairs runs a parallel economy where, for money, any foreigner can become a citizen overnight. In fact any dicument can be obtained in minimal time for a fee to an 'agent' who will charge a few thousand rands for the effort. The commission is obviously split with whoever is on the inside in homeaffairs who is getting paid to do the job anyway. So, double income and loads of so called 'agents' or facilitators who can make anything possible. A parallel economy with its own rules and rulers. The converse is that, naturally, There is no incentive for homeaffairs employees to do their job, since sooner or later somebody will come in the back door with offers of big money to do a job that they should have done in the first place. There is no way of getting around the corrupt, rotten culture that has permeated S.A. society unless there is a drastic cleanup.

It's unacceptable. I tried for almost 3 years to get vault copies of birth certificates and unabridged birth certificates, with no luck. My daughter came across someone on FB who claimed to be able to 'help' with homeaffairs documents. I met with her. She wanted R2500.00 to have it done. Being a sceptic, I asked her how could I be sure that she would get the documents, So she said - don't worry you can pay me when I have the papers. Without a word of a lie, The very next day she phoned me to tell me that the papers are ready if I bring the cash. And there you have it, my three year problem fixed in one day. All this, bearing in mind that I live in Jnb, was told by Alberton HA that I had to apply in H Office in Pta. I took off numerous days, going to Pta, standing in queues for hours to then be given yet another feeble story about how the papers are not ready.

John if you think Home Affairs is a huge problem, I dare you to visit SASSA officers in Bellville & Eerste River. Old & Cripple people sleep over night Mondays to Thursday on the side walks. Go see and hear what is going on there. It will leave you in a bigger shock....
